Theres a lot of excellent female musician's out there and to celebrate I have made a playlist of my top ones. (link below and in comments)

This YouTube playlist is made up of twelve songs, sung by some of my all time favourite female vocalists from metal, goth, punk and alternative genres including Siouxsie Sioux, Chelsea Wolfe and Tatiana Shmailyuk as well as some class bands you may not have heard of before but worth giving a shot.

A local gig happening at Luca Records & Decks this Saturday, quality punk at a punk price.

Bar Tape & Hubert Selby Jr. Infants are both great bands and punk as they come with Bar Tape having pop punk energy and riffs on songs with a solid DIY sound and great vocals that you would expect from a punk band and Hubert Selby Jr. Infants has a more noise pop / garage rock / punk sound that is blended together excellently and leaves a serious impression.

If you're around grab a ticket its only a fiver and maybe a record two if something interests you.

THIS SATURDAY MARCH 11TH AT 9PM & ARE PLAYING IN LUCA RECORDS & DECKS. TICKETS ARE €5. TWO DEADLY BANDS FOR A FIVER. DOESNT GET MUCH BETTER THAN THAT.

Local young experimental punk band doing there thing, havent seen them live yet but they have some catchy tunes.

Meme of the week and a music recommendation.

Rob Halford has some sick xmas albums if your looking for something different this year than the old Maria Carey and that noise.

If you want a different take on the classics check them out.

Halloween, Christmas, On a Sunday, In Bed - When it comes to Siouxsie And The Banshees their is never a bad time or place to listen to a few singles or an album,
with their diverse and dynamic sound developing over eleven studio albums there is a lot to explore and a lot to love.

But since its Halloween I would have to recommend and show off there new autumn themed compilation album - All Souls. Containing a few of their spooky classics - Spellbound, Halloween and Peek-A-Boo, some lesser known but still great songs - Rawhead and Bloodybones & The Sweetest Chill as well as some great b-sides. The cherry on top is that the album was curated by Siouxsie herself

In my opinion its one incredible compliation album with an excellent track order that leaves you craving more.

My history with alternative-metal was always a bit of a love / hate affair during the 2000s, but over time as I got into the more extreme side of metal, a couple of albums from that period stood the test of time and one of those was Fallen.

At the time Amy Lee's vocals was the draw to me with my favourite songs like im sure like so many others were Bring Me To Life, Going Under, My Immortal and Everybody's Fool. For the longest time these were the only songs I listen to from the album as well as the only songs I listened to by Evanescence in general.

That changed earlier this year when I picked up Fallen from Luca Records and after listening to it from beginning to end several times, I came to the conclusion that all the songs in one way or another are great and pretty memorable like My Last Breath and Imaginary to name a few. I also started appreciating the pure / raw talent that Ben Moody brought to the album it would not have been the same without him.

For those reasons and more I highly recommend this excellent album, as well as checking out some of Evanescence's later songs they are also great.

Vinyl in my personal opinion is the best way of listening to music and for anyone who has one a cheap all in one record player FYI it will wreck your records over time, it won't sound great as it can be and harms the formats reputation long term.

So I'm glad after months of saving I have traded in my old all in one record player for something much better. Its still in a temporary location but I have to say it's a vast improvement sound quality wise.

So if you can afford it and you appreciate your collection think about taking the next step up and buying some new hardware too.

Summer is out and Autumn is here, as the darker months came in I have been starting to check out some older bands that I have heard about but never really gave a shot.

Going in line with this is today's record recommendation, the dark sounding synthpop band Depeche Mode's breakout album Violator featuring two of their most well know songs - Personal Jesus and Enjoy the Silence as well as one of my favourites Waiting for the Night.

It's a great album from beginning to end with timeless energy, well worth a shot if you have not listened to it fully as for me I will be listening to it regularly for years to come.
