98 adults were stuck in emergency accommodation in Waterford last August.

A bed for the night in a hostel or a hotel room is not the same as a home in the city they know.

There's no space of their own to come back to, no door that's really theirs to close behind them.

For 98 people in Waterford, this is their reality. Constant uncertainty.

People deserve better.

356 adults were stuck in emergency accommodation across the South East in August.

247 of them were without a partner or family alongside them.

Living in emergency accommodation means trying to keep everyday life going without the stability of a place to call home.

They still go to work. They still keep appointments. They still try to maintain routines.

They try to rest and prepare for he next day, all while living with the uncertainty of homelessness.

For hundreds of adults across the South East, this is their reality.

People deserve better.

For each person behind this figure, emergency accommodation means another month without a permanent place to call home.

Another month of uncertainty. Another month waiting for the chance to move forward.

Emergency accommodation was never meant to be a long-term answer to homelessness.

106 men and women were stuck in emergency accommodation in Waterford in July. That's down from 117 a year ago.

Fewer people in emergency accommodation is welcome. But 106 people are still without a home they can afford.

Emergency accommodation should be exactly that: A temporary place to stay when there's nowhere else to turn.

For far too many people, it has become something much longer.

357 adults were stuck in emergency accommodation across the South East in July. 250 of them - seven in every ten, were adults facing homelessness alone.

The number of people facing homelessness alone is up 8% in twelve months.

A place in emergency accommodation is not a home. Month after month, hundreds of people across the South East are waiting for the chance to move on.

480 men, women and children were stuck in emergency accommodation across the South East in July. Unchanged since June and up 9% in twelve months.

Homelessness can mean long days with nowhere to go.

As Frank explains:

"It’s very, very hard to keep occupied during the day. You’ve no money, so you’re not allowed into places. Every day you’ve nowhere to go and nothing to do. I was wandering around, spending a lot of time in the park, just walking aimlessly."

254 adults in the South East were experiencing homelessness alone in May 2026. That is 9% more than this time last year.

More than two in every three adults in emergency accommodation across the region right now is on their own.

Truly on their own. But not without people who care. Every day, South East Simon staff and donors show up - making sure no one faces this alone.

For every one of them, life is on hold. Plans delayed. Opportunities missed. The future harder to imagine.

They deserve better. And the South East isn't letting them be forgotten.
