SC Road Racing Committee

SC Road Racing Committee This is the official page of the Southern Centre Road Race Committee as part of Motorcycling Ireland.

The Road Race Committee is made up of a number of clubs who support and run road race events, participate in the running of road race events and the clubs who work with riders and club members in the Republic as part of Motorcycling Ireland. The Clubs that form the Road Race Committee are Southwest Road Racing (Athea), Kells Road Races (Crossakiel), Faugheen50 Supporters Club Ltd (Faugheen), Cork

Motorcycle Racing and Vintage Club (Munster 100, Glanmire), Loughshinny Motorcycle Supporters Club (Skerries 100), Fore Motorcycle Racing Club (Walderstown), Classic Bike Racing Ireland, and West Cork Motorcycle Club. The aim of the Committee is the continued support of racing on closed public roads which has been part and parcel of our motorcycle heritage for over 100 years.

As usual the Cookstown 100 didn't disappoint last weekend, where some of our first time Road Racers and more experienced riders took to the Roads around Orritor. Fridays sessions were run in what started off in downpours of rain and hail, however, Saturday the sun shone bright for everyone with some 1st class racing right across all the classes. Great to see Micko Sweeney back to where he belongs, at the sharp end of the results and a happy head on those podium steps. Congratulations and well done to all our Southern Centre riders, you all did yourselves proud. Finally, well done to the Cookstown Club on a great event, and best wishes to John Dillion who hung up his Clerk of Course badge after a super enjoyable race weekend. We'll post more pictures of our riders over the next few days.

Ladies, gentlemen, boys and girls, we are only three weeks away from the Season Opener, The Cemcor Cookstown 100 is on the 26th and 27th of April. The Club will be at the circuit tomorrow between 1pm and 3pm giving people the chance to buy the Race packages in person rather than online. The Club has been working tirelessly to run the event, and it is so important that Road Race supporters and fans everywhere can support the club and the race weekend. So between the Racing, a wonderful Ulster fry up, and a very hospitable Club, there is no excuse not to get to the Orriter Circuit, and support our sport, and riders.

Kells Road Races will be running their 3rd Annual 'Ireland's largest Ride Out' on the 14th April, with local charities being the beneficiaries on the Event. So let Storm Kathleen do her worst this weekend, as long as the following weekend stays dry and sunny for the event.

Last weekend seen the first round of the USBK at Bishopscourt, and unfortunately, the weather got the better of the racing, however some of our Road Racers were out on the tarmac. Darryl Tweed and Paul Gartland were joined by others, such as Gavan Duffy, Sean Leonard, Andy Gildea and a surprise addition to the events, Andy Farrell. With only a few short weeks until Cookstown, hopefully everyone has their tickets, and will be supporting our riders returning to the Roads.

The Road Race Committee would like to pass on their condolences to Killian's family and friends after his very sudden passing. Killian graced many of the Road Races across the Country and made so many lifelong friends along the way. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Next month sees the return of our riders to the Roads of Orriter just outside the lovely town of Cookstown in Co. Tyrone. It is more important than ever that we really get behind the sport and the Clubs continuing to work tirelessly to ensure our sport prevails. While we have no road racing in the Southern Centre this Year, its important that we all work and support each other through this, and many of our SC riders have already signed up to compete at the CDE Cookstown 100 which is now in its 102nd year. Tickets for the two day event are £25pp and can be purchased via PayPal, which is about the equivalent of two skinny macichino oat and coconut lattes and two chocolate muffins. Two great days of racing and watching our racing hero's such as Michael 'Micko' Sweeney and others chasing the checkered flag. So please support our sport and the Cookstown and District M.C.C. by buying tickets and lining the hedges around the Orriter Circuit.
