A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us on Sunday, 24th of August for the unveiling of our latest Blue Plaque at the iconic Fishermen’s Hall in Dunmore East. The lovely weather was the perfect backdrop for a truly wonderful community occasion!

A special thanks to Mary Butler TD for performing the unveiling honours, and to our brilliant sponsors and partners, Waterford City and County Libraries, Waterford City and County Council and Dunmore East Heritage Group for their invaluable cooperation.

We were delighted to see so many of you there to celebrate the rich history of this beloved building. From its origins as a reading room for fishermen and seafarers, founded by the Malcomson family, to its many roles as a venue for dances, a haven for shipwrecked sailors, and now a library and preschool, the hall is truly woven into the fabric of Dunmore.

The plaque honours the memory of Joseph ‘Master Joe’ Malcomson, a generous patron of the local maritime community who was "particularly at home with the fishing fraternity" and was known for organising cricket matches between soldiers and local fishermen. The hall was built in his memory by his mother, Nannie, and it was a pleasure to see his story recognised permanently at the heart of the village.

And of course, the event was made all the sweeter by the scrumptious blue plaque-themed cakes! 🧁

What a treat for Waterford! 🌟
Last Thursday, 17th July 2025, the legendary Derry-born composer and songwriter Phil Coulter visited our beautiful city to see our Collins Brothers Heritage Blue Plaque on Philip Street. 🎼✨

For those who might not know, Phil is the genius behind timeless classics like 'Puppet on a String' (Sandie Shaw’s Eurovision winner!) and 'The Town I Loved So Well'. His music has touched hearts across generations, and now he’s back with a brand-new single, 'For Another King and Country' a poignant, powerful track that’s already stirring emotions. 🎶❤️

Phil’s career spans decades, from writing hits for The Bay City Rollers and Cliff Richard to producing for Van Morrison and The Dubliners. A true icon of Irish music, his work blends storytelling with melody in a way that feels like home. 🏡💫

So thrilled he took the time to explore Waterford’s rich heritage – and we can’t wait to hear his new music filling the airwaves! The brand new single from Phil Coulter & Roy Buckley will be released worldwide on ALL download and streaming platforms (Apple, Amazon, YouTube etc) on JULY 30TH 2025 !!
