Our regular meetings and events are held in Lackagh Parish Centre. The Association typically holds 5 or 6 meetings per annum, together with a number of other activities throughout the year. In addition to these activities it provides a continually expanding library of genealogical and historical books for members' usage. 📣We are delighted to announce our first lecture in this season's Heritage Lecture series which will be delivered by Myles McHugh on the subject of the railway in Galway. 🚂

Myles is a native of Galway City and has lived in Oranmore for over 20 years. He worked in various roles with C.I.É and Iarnród Éireann for over 40 years.

Please spread the word that we will have a lovely event in the main hall of the Community Centre tomorrow evening, Tues 25th Aug, from 7pm to 9pm. Titled The Abbeyknockmoy Census 1926 presented by Martin Curley, our local genealogy & heritage guru! This will be a very interesting talk where Martin will explore what information is available in the 1926 Census with examples from the local area, along with practical tips on how to search for & trace family members & others. Martin will also highkight some of the social and demographic changes that took place over the intervening years. Please forward this notice to friends, family or neighbours who would love to learn more on this subject.

Digital Mapping of Our Graveyards

Have you ever struggled to locate a family grave or wanted to learn more about the history of our local cemeteries?

Abbeyknockmoys Cultural Heritage group are delighted to announce that the Heritage Council are funding the Digital Mapping of our local graveyards. With the assitance of 3 volunteers, data for the digital map will be recorded over a series of weekends. We hope to commence this aspect after the event for Heritage Week.

To celebrate National Heritage Week 2026 - Join us for an informative presentation on the digital mapping of our graveyards. Learn how modern technology is being used to record grave locations, preserve historical information, and make burial records more accessible for families, historians, genealogists, and the wider community.

📚 Entering the Grey Zone: Thinking about Ireland’s Great Famine

As part of National Heritage Week 2026, Moycullen Heritage is delighted to welcome historian Breandán Mac Suibhne of the University of Galway to Maigh Cuilinn.

Histories of the Great Famine have often focused on what landlords, charities and the state did to - and for - the poor. In this thought-provoking talk, Breandán will explore what the poor did for, and sometimes to, one another during those difficult years, good and bad.

The evening will also include the relaunch of An Gorta Mór i Maigh Cuilinn, first published by Moycullen Heritage in 1997. Every attendee will receive a complimentary copy.
