✨ Reflecting on our Collaborative Roundtable Event ✨
Back in February, over 80 professionals, parents and young people came together for our Roundtable Event to reflect on three years of partnership between Offaly Traveller Movement (OTM), Laois Travellers Action Group(LTAG), and Tusla (Laois/Offaly).
This event provided an opportunity to celebrate our shared achievements, learn from our experiences, and explore how we can continue working together to improve outcomes for Traveller children, young people, and families.
Over the past three years, our work has focused on building relationships between Tusla and the Traveller community, breaking down barriers to accessing services and promoting cultural awareness through a range of innovative projects:
- Year 1: Sharing information and culture through creative workshops.
- Year 2: Delivering an 8-week programme focused on strengthening family connections.
-Year 3: A Wellness and Creativity Programme for young people and parents, with a focus on education and wellbeing.
The Roundtable discussions highlighted:
💬 What has worked well in building trust and positive relationships with families and young people.
💬 The ongoing challenges and barriers experienced by both professionals and Traveller families.
💬 Practical ways for services to strengthen collaboration, reduce discrimination, and improve outcomes into the future.
We would like to sincerely thank everyone who attended, contributed their experiences, and engaged in such meaningful discussions. A special thanks to Ger Brophy Chief Social Worker for Tusla for being our rapporteur.
On behalf of Aislinn (OTM), Jules and Brian (LTAG), and Lorna and Audrey (Tusla), thank you to everyone who made this event possible, particularly the families we have worked with over the last number of years. We look forward to continuing this important work together this year and build on the strong foundations we have created.
