As comes to an end, we would like to congratulate, celebrate and appreciate all the men (women and children too!) who took part in one of our Slí, Walk and Talk events around the country. This year we have built on previous success with more than a dozen events taking place all around Ireland. This film from Fingal County Council and RushMens Sheds gives us a flavour of the joy and community spirit present, the event was very well attended by Swords, Skerries, Balbriggan, Rush, Portmarnock and Malahide sheds. Sponsorship from Fingal County Council made possible all the activities, walks, a lovely lunch and a great band supplying great music. A great day out for all!

Take One Step at a Time !
Do you ever get the feeling that everyone is trying to weigh you down with ‘health messages’?

Of course, it is true that we all need to: eat 5-7 portions of fruit / vegetables a day; have at least 30 minutes moderate physical activity on five days a week; stop smoking; limit our alcohol consumption; check our bits and bobs; maintain our social connections; seek help quickly when we need it … but, if we aren’t already doing this, then we need to find easy ways to get ourselves into this routine. The best place to start is by taking things one step at a time.
During 2026, everyone is being asked to seek and to take simple, realistic and practical steps that feel manageable. The outcome? …
Focus upon one step at a time to make positive changes to the health of men and boys, and then pat yourself on the back to mark your achievement!

The Irish Men’s Sheds Association (IMSA) Celebrated five years of their flagship Sheds for Life Health & Wellbeing programme with an Awards ceremony in the Sliabh Russell Hotel in Cavan on Wednesday. Sheds from Cavan and Monaghan who have just completed the ten-week programme were joined by shedders and volunteers from around the country and officials from the Department of Health and the HSE. The Sheds for Life Awards, or “Sheddies” as they are fondly known, recognise the contribution made by shedders in taking part, but also in sharing the design and form of the programme.

The Shedcast went to talk with Jenny Branigan from parkrun Ireland. Parkruns are free, weekly community events for all ages, abilities, backgrounds and walks of life. You can join in how you like: volunteer, walk, run, or simply come along and watch.

Last year marked 20 years since parkrun’s founder, Paul Sinton-Hewitt, organised the Bushy Park Time Trial that evolved into parkrun. Since then, more than 2,500 parkruns have been set up in 23 countries around the world.
