🔨 CAN YOU HELP DIY SOS IN OFFALY? 🏠

DIY SOS: The Big Build Ireland is coming to Walsh Island from the 1st to 10th of September, and we are looking for volunteers to help behind the scenes.

We need people to assist with:

🔹 Volunteer registration
🔹 A little light catering
🔹 Minding the tool tent
🔹 General setting up and helping out

You do not need to be a skilled tradesperson. If you can spare some time and would like to be part of this very special project for a local family, we would love to hear from you.

🚗 Could you spare a LITTLE time to make a BIG difference?

Tullamore Meals on Wheels is looking for friendly, reliable volunteers to help deliver nutritious meals to people in the local community.

Meals on Wheels is about much more than food. Volunteers also provide a friendly face, a few words of conversation, and an important check-in for people who may be living alone or have limited contact with others.

It is a simple and rewarding way to:

💚Make a real difference locally
🤍Meet people and feel more connected to your community
🧡Know that your time is genuinely valued and appreciated

It is not a huge commitment either. Volunteers choose a day that suits them and commit to that day for one month at a time.

🧶 OUR CRAFTERS NEED MORE YARN! 🧶

Fresh from their wonderful work in the run-up to Birr Vintage Week & Arts Festival, our crafty volunteers are already hatching plans for Christmas!

They will be making lovely pieces for Christmas charity gift boxes, but their yarn supplies are beginning to run low.

So, if you have a stash tucked away that you fully intended to use one day, this could be its moment! We would be delighted to give it a good home and put it to very good use.

We are looking for yarn that is:

🧶 DK weight (it should say DK on the label)
🧶 Clean and in good condition

We can collect it from you. Just send us a DM or PM, give us a call, or email [email protected].

Please help us keep our wonderful crafters crafting, and this very good yarn going! 🧶🎄

Chalk 23rd August down as the community comes together to celebrate Ukrainian Independence Day! 🇺🇦
It will be a joyful occasion filled with Ukrainian culture, friendship, community spirit, and, of course, plenty of blue and yellow. Everyone is welcome to join the celebration and show their support for our Ukrainian friends and neighbours. 💙💛

✨ Doesn't Mucklagh look fantastic?
A huge well done to everyone who rolled up their sleeves and gave their time to help make such a visible difference. Well done Mucklagh Tidy Villages. So far, sooooo fab!!! Your efforts have helped create a place that the whole community can be proud of. Fair play to the team from Zoetis who will lend their elbow grease tomorrow as part of their CSR programme. We love it!
Now comes the easy part for the rest of us. Let's all do our bit to keep it looking this way. Take your litter home, respect the hard work that's gone into it, and help keep Mucklagh looking its very best.
Community pride starts with all of us. Well done, everyone! 👏💚

🧶 WOOL WANTED! 🧶

A brilliant group of our volunteers have been busy helping with the yarnbombing for Birr Vintage & Heritage Week. The trouble is, they have now caught the bug and cannot stop!

Next, they plan to make pieces for inclusion in Christmas charity gift boxes. We will share more about that closer to Christmas, but right now, we are running short of yarn.

If you have a well-intentioned stash that you have never quite managed to use, we would be delighted to relieve you of your yarny guilt! All we ask is that it is:

🧶 DK weight (it will say this on the label and simply refers to the thickness of the yarn)
🧶 Clean and in good nick

We will happily collect it from you. Just DM or PM us, give us a buzz, or email [email protected].

🧶🎨 BIRR VINTAGE WEEK & ARTS FESTIVAL IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER! 🎭🎶

One of Ireland’s longest running and most loved community festivals is nearly here!

From the 31st of July to the 8th of August, Birr will once again come alive with an incredible programme of music, theatre, visual arts, exhibitions, workshops, family events, heritage, street performances, community celebrations, and so much more. There really is something for everyone!

And once again, one of the festival’s most colourful attractions is making a return…

🧶 THE BIG BIRR YARNBOMB! 🧶

The streets of Birr will be transformed with vibrant knitted and crocheted creations, bringing colour, smiles, and a wonderful sense of fun to every corner of the town.

The organisers are looking for anyone who enjoys knitting or crocheting to create a few colourful bits and bobs to help make this year’s Yarnbomb bigger and brighter than ever.

So whether you’re an experienced crafter or you’ve only recently picked up the needles or hook, every little creation will help!

☀️ Sunshine, the chats, and new possibilities.

We were delighted to welcome the MenPower group to our centre today, where they met with our Community Volunteer Programme Co-ordinator, Frances, to learn about the many benefits of volunteering and the opportunities available throughout Offaly.

MenPower provides a welcoming space where men can come together, build friendships, develop new skills, and support one another. It was a pleasure to have the group with us and to chat about how volunteering can add another dimension to wellbeing by creating purpose, confidence, connections, and a chance to give back to the community.

The glorious sunshine meant we could even take the conversation outdoors. Sometimes, the best meetings happen in the fresh air!

🚲 THE TRISHAW IS COMING TO TOWN! 🚲

Keep an eye out for our wonderful Trishaw this week!

Thursday: The Bridge Centre
Friday: O’Connor Square

Our fantastic volunteers will be offering free short Trishaw rides, so if you’ve ever wondered what it’s like, now’s your chance to hop on board and enjoy the experience!

Thinking about booking a longer outing for yourself, a family member, or someone you know? We’ve made it even easier. Simply scan the QR code on our poster to book the Trishaw for a free two hour outing.

The Trishaw is all about bringing people together, creating memories, and making the joy of cycling accessible to everyone.

🚴‍♀️ Let’s give them the fáilte they deserve! 🚴‍♂️

This Saturday, 11the July, let’s come together to cheer on the incredible Applegreen team as they complete their charity cycle from Bunratty Castle, Co. Clare, to the Court Hotel in Tullamore.

They are expected to arrive at approximately 4.30 pm, having cycled the distance to raise vital funds for Jigsaw, supporting young people’s mental health across Ireland.

This is a wonderful opportunity to show our support for one of our fantastic registered organisations and the dedicated people who are going the extra mile, quite literally, for an important cause.

If you can spare a little time, please head to the Court Hotel, Tullamore, and help give the cyclists a huge Faithful County welcome as they cross the finish line. Every cheer, every clap, and every smiling face will help make their achievement even more special.

We hope to see you there! 💚🤍💛
