Well done Steven and Catriona

CatriΓ³na and Stephen, Recovery Coach with Recovery Academy Ireland and facilitated a powerful session today with the lads on the Boxing Clever programme. As part of The Community Addiction Studies Course the group explored interventions and experimented with using SAOR as a model to provide an evidence based intervention. For some of the group it felt strange and challenging to be the intervention provider rather than the recipiant, but they pushed on and worked through that awkward feeling.

We are delighted to be supporting this fantastic initiative. Congratulations to the first two graduates of the Trim Court drugs pilot programme β€” proof that when people are given the right support, recovery and positive change are possible.

For too long, problematic drug use has been treated primarily as a criminal justice issue. What initiatives like this show is that we need a properly funded, health-led response that puts care, treatment, rehabilitation and community support at the centre.

People struggling with addiction need access to services, mental health supports, housing, education and pathways back into their communities β€” not stigma and exclusion.

These programmes work. They reduce harm, support recovery and help rebuild lives and communities. But they cannot survive on short-term thinking or limited resources.

We are calling on the Department of Justice to commit to sustained funding for these initiatives and expand health-led programmes across the country so that more people have the opportunity to recover and move forward with dignity and support.

Well done to everyone involved, and especially to the graduates for their courage and commitment

The Drug Treatment Court (DTC) was established in Dublin in 2001 as a pilot programme to provide a court-supervised , rehabilitative alternative to prison for drug-addicted offenders.
