Hidden among the ancient ruins of Newtown, Trim lies one of Meath’s most fascinating legends. The Tomb of the Jealous Man and Woman 💔
Dating back to the late 1500s, the tomb belongs to Sir Lucas Dillon and Lady Jane Bathe. But local folklore says jealousy followed them into eternity. The stone figures lie side by side, separated forever by a sword carved between them.
For generations, people have visited the tomb not only for its history, but for its mystery. Legend says if you rub a pin on a wart and leave it on the tomb, the wart disappears as the pin rusts away.
Set beside the ruins of Newtown Cathedral and overlooking the Boyne, it’s one of those places where history, folklore and atmosphere all meet.
