HAVE YOUR SAY 📢

The Government has launched a public consultation on the first review of the Disability Act 2005 in over 20 years. People with disabilities, families, carers and representative groups are encouraged to have their say and help shape future disability legislation.

If you have experience of barriers or successes in accessing sport, physical activity or community participation, this is an important opportunity to make your voice heard.

Consultation closes 9 September. Submissions are invited via email, post, audio/video, online form, Braille and Irish Sign Language.

Last week we were delighted to welcome a cohort of students from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW–Madison).

We are proud to continue the partnership and were pleased to welcome another group to Ireland for a valuable session on disability inclusion.

As part of their studies in health and sport science, the students joined us to learn more about disability inclusion in sport and physical activity. The day included a theory workshop followed by a practical session in the Sport Ireland Indoor Arena with our team.

In previous years, we have hosted similar workshops at our offices in Tralee, further strengthening the collaboration and we look forward to working together in the future.

💬 “It will give them the tools to understand and build on what they’ve learned today, and then ultimately apply that to their learning in school, and outside of school.”

We recently spoke with teaching staff at Enfield Community College about their experience with our Xcessible Schools pilot programme and the positive impact it has on students.

The programme combines an interactive in-person workshop with our online course, Disability Inclusion in Physical Activity and Sport, helping students develop a greater understanding of disability inclusion and how it can be applied in everyday life.

We are now planning the second pilot phase and would love to hear from schools across Leinster that are interested in taking part.
