Paddy Massey of the Blackwater Wind Aware protest group says they are ā€œdeeply disappointed but not very surprised, given the inconsistency of the Bord’s decisions. We will study the report and consider our options''.

West Waterford Sinn FĆ©in Councillor, Conor McGuinness, who made a detailed submission opposing the development says he is ā€œstunnedā€ by the decision. ā€œThere were queues at several local post offices such was the volume of submissions being submitted,ā€ he said. ā€œThe planning process was extremely convoluted and very many people will be distraught at this decisionā€.

Eleven of the 5MW capacity turbines will be sited on the west Waterford side and six in east Cork, with both sets linked by a 3.3km underground cable

"We are disappointed but not surprised by this decision from ABP in relation to the proposed Lyrenacarriga wind farm."
"It's deeply alarming that these very relevant concerns and objections of over 1,000 people can be so easily dismissed."

"We are waiting to receive a copy of the inspector's report. Once we have reviewed it then this will inform what steps we take next."
"Local communities should stay in touch via our social media and ezines for further updates."

Chair, Blackwater Wind Aware
