We are proud to continue our blog series introducing the dedicated members of Anam Cara’s Board. Today, we meet Hugh Daly, whose background in general practice, combined with personal experience of bereavement and a deep sense of compassion, brings a thoughtful and grounded perspective to the organisation.

Through his professional expertise and lived experience, Hugh contributes valuable insight into the importance of empathy, connection and supporter care at every stage of the journey. We hope you enjoy learning more about Hugh and the role he plays in helping to guide and strengthen Anam Cara’s work with bereaved parents and families.

This evening, we welcome bereaved parents to join our Grief Café in Buncrana, a quiet, understanding space where you can come just as you are.

Grief can feel isolating, but you are not alone. Our Grief Café offers an opportunity to sit together with others who truly understand the depth of loss, to share (if you wish), or simply to be in the company of people who care.

There is no expectation to speak. There is no pressure. Just a warm, safe space, a listening ear, and gentle support.

On Sunday, Gordana completed the VHI Women’s Mini Marathon in memory of her precious son, Oisín.

Oisín was just 13 years old, a second-year student with a heart far beyond his years. In a moment of incredible bravery, he saved his friend from drowning but tragically, he could not save himself.

Oisín always had a smile on his face and would help anyone who needed it. He was the youngest boy in the family and a very loving big brother to his little sister Lara.

We are so grateful to Gordana for choosing to support Anam Cara and you are invited to support her fundraising efforts by clicking the donation link below:

Because of your support, Anam Cara is here for every bereaved parent like Gordana. Nobody should have to grieve alone.
