St. Dominic left no writings specifically about the Sacred Heart—yet his life pointed toward the wounded love of Christ.

St. Dominic’s legacy is not built on many personal writings, but on a life consumed by truth, prayer, and love for Christ.

He was a man of prayer who, before Jesus Crucified, contemplated the Cross and the Supreme Love revealed there.

In Dominican art—such as that of Fra Angelico (not the poster shown here)—St. Dominic is often portrayed in intimate closeness to Christ’s Cross, showing how contemplation of the Passion draws the heart toward the love revealed by the pierced side.

And the Church explains that devotion to the Sacred Heart is, in a real sense, the prophetic and evangelical gaze on Christ who was pierced—from whose side flowed blood and water.

To contemplate the wound of Christ is to receive His love.
