Sligo Lend a Hand

Sligo Lend a Hand Sligo Lend a Hand is a free service carrying out small or minor repair jobs in the homes of vulnerabl The visit will last no more than one and a half hours.

The Lend a Hand Service is provided free of charge by a pool of voluntary handypersons and helpers. Sligo Lend a Hand greatly regards our volunteers as a valuable resource without which the service cannot operate. The service includes minor repairs and small jobs inside and outside of the house. Volunteers will visit vulnerable and older people in their homes in pairs to carry out minor odd jobs.

In general one volunteer will carry out the work while the second chats to the service user; however there may be levels of flexibility. The emphasis is that no job is too small. The coordinator receives the calls and organises volunteers to carry out the work following the service protocols. The more common services required are:
Install locks, door chains and bolts
Small paint jobs
Minor repairs
Installing curtain rails
Cleaning and tidying
Putting up cloths lines
Putting up picture hooks
Small painting jobs
Set heating timers
Light gardening (max 3 visits)
Replace light bulbs and pull cords
Replace electric plugs and fuses.

Every autumn people from all over Ireland nominate their neighbors, family, friends, colleagues and community supporters for the chance to win a Volunteer Ireland Award. The Volunteer Ireland Awards are the major annual initiative to celebrate volunteers in Ireland. The awards shine a light on the remarkable achievements of volunteers around the country by honoring them at a national level.

Every volunteer that is nominated will receive a thank you card from Volunteer Ireland. We want to let everyone who is nominated know that their contributions are greatly valued and that someone took the time to put them forward for an award.
Awardees’ volunteer stories will be shared across our social media channels and with local and national press. By sharing these incredible volunteers’ stories we are honouring their contribution to Irish society and also inspiring others to get involved.

Submit a nomination today at www.volunteer.ie/nominate
The deadline is 11th of October.
