Féileacáin (CHY 19635)was founded by a group of bereaved parents who came together to offer hope and support to others affected by the loss of a baby who unfortunately would need our help. A Butterfly alights besides us like a sunbeam..... And for a brief moment it's glory and beauty belong to this world... But then it flies on again and though we wish it could have stayed, We are so thankful to have seen it at all.

What a fantastic fundraiser held by St Mary’s National School, Ashbourne, These children and their teacher show the incredible power of opening up a conversation and how we all have so much more in common than we ever realised 💜
The conversation around baby loss can be a hard one but it is also an important one ,allowing children speak openly about their siblings is a beautiful gift as all any of us want is to share our family proudly with our friends and classmates 🫶
Well done to all involved 👏👏🦋

Sometimes a fundraising does more than raise money and that was certainly the case for in
St Mary’s National School Ashbourne. This fundraiser not only raised an amazing amount
of money, but they opened up conversations that may never have happened otherwise.
Mr O’Brádaigh 6th class teacher asked each student to consider donating some of their
Confirmation money to charity. He gave every student the opportunity to choose a charity
and present it to their classmates.
One young boy Liam stood up and spoke about Féileacáin, as it was his chosen charity.
Mr O’Brádaigh later shared how amazed he was by what happened next. He said that a
conversation unfolded with other students in the class. These students began sharing that
they, too, had experienced the death of a baby brother or sister. Some also spoke about
being a rainbow baby and explained to the class what that meant.
For these students, it was the first time their teacher of two years and classmates for 8
years had heard their stories. It was also the first time the students realised that others in
the room baby brother or sister had died.
Féileacáin and another charity were the chosen charities as their fundraising projects, and
the class raised an incredible €330 for Féileacáin.
We are deeply grateful for every euro raised. That money will make a real difference and
will help us continue supporting bereaved families.
But this class also did something equally important. They helped raise awareness. They
helped create understanding. And they helped children discover that they were not alone.
A special thank you to their wonderful teacher Mr O’Brádaigh. It was brave to create a
space where children could learn, listen and share. By doing so, he gave permission for
important conversations to happen and created an environment where children felt safe
enough to talk about experiences that are so often hidden or left unspoken.
A huge thank you to every child who took part, and Liam who chose Féileacáin and spoke
so compassionately about our work.
You raised an amazing amount of money, and you also helped create kindness, understanding, compassion and connection.
For that ,we are truly grateful .
