This site is here to let you know all about the Skibbereen Branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann - an organisation formed over 50 years ago to foster and promote Irish music and culture in the Skibbereen area of County Cork. Founded in 1969, Skibbereen Comhaltas is based in Skibbereen, West Cork and our membership is drawn from many of the surrounding towns and area's including Rosscarbery, Drimoleague, Baltimore, Ballydehob, Aughadown and Caheragh, as well as the town itself.

Our junior dancers, tutored by Emma O'Flynn, gave a wonderful performance in the Gaelscoil on Tuesday evening to mark the end of their dance classes for the year. Each group delighted family members with a display of some of the dances they had learned from Emma throughout the year. Their enthusiasm, confidence, and skill were evident in every performance, making it a very enjoyable occasion for all who attended. Emma's classes will resume again in September.

A big thank you to everyone who took part in our Comhaltas Flag Day today in Skibbereen!

Our U12s played in Fields from 1pm to 2pm, followed by our over 12 and senior musicians from 2pm to 3pm. It was wonderful to see such a great turnout and hear so much fantastic music throughout the afternoon.

A sincere thank you to all the collectors who gave their time and helped out with the flag day collections.

Your support is greatly appreciated and helped make the day such a success. Thank you all!

Congratulations to our five branch members who were successful at the County Fleadh Cheoil in Ballincollig last weekend. They have now qualified for the Munster Fleadh in Lismore, Co. Waterford in July:

• Kevin Duffy - 15/18 Bodhrán, 1st place
• Emer McCarthy - Senior Piano, 2nd place
• Daniel Coughlan - Senior Bodhrán, 2nd place
• Zach O'Donoghue - Under 12 Bodhrán, 3rd place (recommended)
• Ciarán French - 1st place with Drombeg Senior Céilí Band

To conclude our weekly Junior Dancing Classes with Martina French until next Autumn, we held our annual night of competitions last Wednesday where the children and teenagers attending our Junior Dancing classes competed in competitions in waltzing, brush dancing, two-hand and four-hand céilí dancing.

Our dancers are now busy preparing for the County Fleadh Dancing competitions in Dunmanway on Bank Holiday Monday, May 4th.
