The AN POST RÁS
SET TO RIDE INTO SKERRIES ON SUNDAY 29th MAY
The End Stage Race of 2016 An Post Rás Cycling event will be welcomed into Skerries in North County Dublin for a record 9th consecutive year on Sunday 29th May 2016. The local committee is arranging the biggest ever street party to welcome in the Riders. A huge crowd is anticipated at the picturesque seaside town, bringing eight tough
days in the saddle to a stirring, atmospheric end. A massive Street Party kicks off the day at 1pm with a range of activities for all ages including street games, funfair, farmer’s market stalls, with home-made goodies and crafts, music and dance, face-painting & magic shows. Over 50 community and volunteer groups and schools will be involved. It is hoped that thousands will once again line the streets for a stirring end to this gruelling round-Ireland race. Paul Deans Chairperson of the Skerries Rás End Stage Committee said, “We are truly delighted that a combination of an amazing local spectator turnout and our efficient organisation of the event in previous years have again put us on the map for the end stage off the An Post Rás “. Visitors are especially welcome to make a real day of it in this charming seaside town; Bring the family with your buckets and spades for a day on the beach; take a bracing walk on the head and watch seals basking off Red Island; Relax over lunch with a sea view in one of the many harbour side venues; or simply take a coffee break in one of our unique pavement cafes. At around 3pm join us on Strand Street to share the thrills and excitement and cheer with the crowd as the cyclists race through the town three times battling it out for the yellow jersey
CYCLING CLUBS will particularly enjoy the rousing finish to the An Post Rás and we hope to see you out in force on your bikes in Skerries on Sunday 29h May
