🏉National Cairn Community Games Rugby 7’s

We were very proud to have both girls and boys rugby teams make it all the way to the All Ireland’s last Saturday in Gormanston College.

The boys were up first and unfortunately, narrowly lost the semi final to the eventual winners by a score. Boys played really well and and ended up with a fantastic bronze 🥉

Girls were brilliant and got through to the final, just losing out on the win, they went home with fantastic silver medals 🥈

Thank you to Barry and Garrett for taking charge of the teams. Skerries Rugby Club has a great history down the years of taking part in Community Games and we’re delighted to keep that tradition going. 🏉👏

The National Cairn Community Games Cross Country, Mixed Distance Relays and 5k Finals took place in Gormanston in the beautiful sunshine today.☀️

Well done to the 12 Skerries athletes who formed part of the Dublin Community Games team with very impressive performances across the board.

🏃🏽‍♀️ *Girls U16 5km*
Grace Downes teamed up with girls from Clontarf to run in the first race. Grace put in a very strong performance in what were very warm conditions for a 5km race and was rewarded with a PB at that distance.

🏃🏽 *Boys U16 5km*
The team comprised of Geoff Walls, Oscar Mullins and Jack Power. Oscar Mullins finished in a fantastic 4th place overall in a very competitive field🎖️ While the team also took 4th place...a brilliant achievement 🎖️

🏃🏽 *U13 1,200m*
Liam Lynch, Max Quinn and Scott Roe formed part of the xc team running 1,200m. All ran really well with the team narrowly missing out on a medal.
Huge congratulations to Scott Roe who led from the gun, finishing in 1st place and is now the National Community Games U13 XC Champion🥇

🏃🏽 *Boys U12 Mixed Distance Relay (MDR)*
Next up was the Boys U12 MDR. The team included Dion Keogh,
Cian Power, Jack Coughlan, Eli Quinn. In a very exciting finish the team were delighted to come away with the silver medal 🥈

🏃🏽‍♀️ *Girls U14 MDR*
For the final race of the day Zara Ojikutu teamed up with 3 girls from Dublin to run in the relay. She ran a fantastic relay leg helping the team finish in an excellent 6th place.

Thanks to the parents and coaches of Skerries Athletics Club for preparing the athletes so well (and in particular Jeremy and John for doing the warm ups today).

Thanks also to Dublin Community Games for coordinating the day.

Massive congratulations to all our superheroes today, not just the kids, but to their parents and all our volunteers!! During the epic torrential downpours and even hailstones ( in May😳)we managed to get through the program, taking breaks to shelter when needed. Throughout the whole event all the kids were in great spirits and gave it everything! 👏💪
Thank you, thank you thank you to everyone who got this over the line. We hope you have all dried out.
Lots of photos to follow……
