Drones, demos, and discovery—what more could you ask for?

Highlighting their progress on the ENSURE 3 and SPATIO projects, Collins Aerospace brought together Ireland's AAM ecosystem leaders for two days of thoughtful discussions, project insights, and seamless demonstrations as part of their SESAR Joint Undertaking project Open Days.

Seeing our facilities buzzing with industry innovators is always a strong affirmation of FMCI's mission. We're proud to act as a hub where cutting-edge technologies and partnerships can flourish, and rarely is that role more pronounced than at events like these.

Thanks to everyone at Collins for making this happen!

Another week, another European project meeting!

Last week, FMCI visited the impressive ZalaZONE proving ground in Hungary for the SMARTAUTO Interregional Policy Learning Event.

Over two days, project partners came together to explore how connected and automated mobility can better serve rural communities.

FMCI contributed with insights on:
🛣️ Ireland's challenges of deploying autonomy on rural roads
📡 Connectivity and infrastructure gaps
⚙️ Ensuring safe and scalable deployment beyond cities

Projects like SMARTAUTO are key to strengthening FMCI’s role as Ireland’s leader in vehicle autonomy and supporting our ambition to become a national testbed for connected and autonomous vehicles—especially as Ireland continues to advance in this space.

We’re delighted to share that FMCI is a partner in the newly launched CAMINO-2 project, which kicked off last week in Brussels.

Over the next 3.5 years, FMCI will collaborate with European partners to design and deploy Shared Autonomous Vehicles (SAVs) across four living labs in Leuven, Paris, Hamburg, and Helmond.

The project brings together:
🤝 Cross-sector collaboration for tackling complex deployment challenges
🚌 Real-world testing environments to validate solutions at scale
💡 Knowledge-sharing tools and training that promote wider adoption

FMCI’s participation supports Ireland’s growing position in connected and automated mobility, following recent advancements in CAV testing.

We look forward to helping bring autonomous mobility closer to everyday reality.

Honoured to have hosted the Canadian Ambassador to Ireland this week! 🇨🇦🇮🇪

As part of their Midwest tour, Ambassador Dennis King and Senior Trade Commissioner Adeline Grenier called into FMCI for a whistlestop tour of all things advanced mobility: emerging AAM aircraft, U-Space management, cutting-edge sensor technologies, Digital Twin simulation, and much more.

Excited to see how these technologies develop from one side of the ocean to the other!

What role do non-profits play in driving the Advanced Air Mobility sector?

From research projects, to the provision of purpose-built infrastructure, to support in deploying cutting-edge tech solutions, non-profits wear a number of hats within the innovation ecosystem.

FMCI shared them all with Global Airspace Radar. Read all about it here: https://globalairspaceradar.com/stories/do-non-profits-have-a-role-in-driving-advanced-air-mobility/

FMCI welcomes Future Mobility Campus... Portugal? 🇮🇪 🇵🇹

Yesterday, we had the honour of hosting a delegation from the Intermunicipal Community of Coimbra Region in Portugal to discuss the ins and outs of establishing a mobility testing facility.

The key ingredients?
- A strong network of partners, both established and emerging;
- Buy-in and support from local authorities and regulators;
- Purpose-built infrastructure, testing zones, and technological supports;
- Enthusiasm for new technologies and a vision for a smarter, safer, and more sustainable future.

We're encouraged to see other regions investing in advanced mobility and will continue to do whatever we can to support innovation in our industry, both in Ireland and abroad.

Great turnout at last week's Skillnet Ireland Roadshow, hosted by FMCI!

It was fantastic to welcome so many partners and leaders, including Marian Harkin TD, Timmy Dooley TD, and Billy Kelleher MEP, as we explored how upskilling and training can support innovation in Ireland.

Through inspiring keynotes and lively panels, we covered:
• Industry need for digital and green skills
• How businesses, training agencies, and government can collaborate to build a future-ready workforce
• Why the Mid-West is a key region for innovation and talent development

Huge thanks to Shannon Chamber, Skillnet Ireland, and everyone who joined us. Together, we’re helping shape a more skilled, agile, and sustainable future for Ireland.

What will transport look like in 2105?

FMCI is proud to join in its 80th-anniversary time capsule, celebrating innovation and imagining the mobility systems of 2105.

You'll have to wait 80 years to find out what we've added, but here's a sneak peek: it's a vision of cleaner skies, connected communities, and bold ideas that stand the test of time.

What would you have added to the time capsule?

Great Scott! It's been 10 years since Marty McFly landed in the future on October 21st, 2015. 🚗⚡ So, how close are we to that imagined future?

In 2025, we might not have hoverboards or flux capacitors (yet), but we’re getting remarkably close to many of the film’s futuristic predictions.

At FMCI, we’re helping make that vision a reality through:
🚘 Connected and Autonomous Vehicle research
🚁 Advanced Air Mobility and drone integration
🌆 Digital Twins and Smart Infrastructure
🔋 Electrification and clean transport solutions

The future of mobility is no longer just a movie concept — it’s being tested, built, and refined every day, right here in Ireland.

What tech from the movie are you most eager to see in our world?
