🌟 Celebrating the people who make things happen in Shannon! 🌟

What a fantastic success for Shannon for Climate Action Week! 🎉

Yesterday, instead of our usual Taster Thursday, Shannon's Treacys Oakwood Hotel welcomed Toy Library Ireland for its first-ever Swap ’n’ Play event in the town, funded by Clare County Council. With over 100 people coming along to swap toys, discover something new and enjoy a day of play, we’d certainly call that a resounding success! 🧸♻️

Today, we want to shine a special spotlight on Barbara Jordan, volunteer with Shannon Community Network, whose hard work helped make it happen.
Barbara took the initiative to travel across Clare to see the event in action in other locations, made the connections with Clare County Council and did the legwork to bring this wonderful initiative to Shannon.

From the initial idea to bringing it to life, she worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make it happen for our community.
And that’s what community volunteering is all about. ❤️ It’s people who see an opportunity, take the initiative and put in the hours to bring something positive to their town.

We’re incredibly grateful to Barbara and to all the volunteers who give their time, energy and passion to create opportunities for the people of Shannon. And a big thank you to Clare County Council for funding this initiative and helping make it possible.

This is the kind of activity our town deserves, opportunities for families to come together, for children to play, for toys to be reused and for our community to connect.
So, please join us in celebrating Barbara and everyone who helps make Shannon a vibrant, welcoming place to live. 👏💚
Because behind every great community event, there are people willing to put in the work to make it happen.

🔥🚒 SHANNON FIRE STATION OPEN DAY! 🚒🔥

It’s National Fire Safety Week, and to mark the occasion, our fantastic crew at Shannon Fire Station are opening their doors to the community this Sunday, 18th October!

📅 Sunday, 18th October
⏰ 12pm – 4pm
📍 Shannon Fire Station

This is a brilliant opportunity for families and members of the community to pop down, meet our local firefighters, have a chat and get an up-close look at the fire engines, vehicles and equipment they use to keep our community safe. 🚒

Open days like this are a great way for children and adults alike to learn more about fire safety and about the important work carried out by our local Fire Service.

And with the weather looking promising, it’s a great excuse to get out and about on Sunday! ☀️

🌱 Shannon’s Sustainable Energy journey has begun!

Shannon Town Sustainable Energy Community (SEC) Group was delighted to welcome a full house last night for the kick-off of our Energy Master Plan, supported by @ @ and the .

The SEC programme brings communities together to explore energy efficiency, renewable energy and practical ways to reduce energy use.

🏡 A project in two halves! Given Shannon’s size and diverse housing stock, community buildings and businesses, we hope to establish a second SEC in the coming weeks to capture the needs of the whole town.

👏 Thanks to consultant Garvey of Clare Energy Agency for a fantastic, interactive session, everyone who attended, and Shannon Tidy Towns for providing bridging funding, fully reimbursed through the SEAI programme. The project is fully funded by SEAI.

💡 What’s next? Plans include further information evenings on topics that the group raised last night such as, how to access SEAI Grants, how to create a 'Solar Meitheal', practical evenings on reading electricity bills and switching suppliers, and an information session on the Warmer Homes Scheme.

📣 We’ll also share details of a community survey, how to book a one-to-one consultation with our consultant, and how to enter a draw for a free home BER assessment.

🤝 Our SEC group sits within Shannon Community Partnership’s Environment & Sustainability Task Team and welcomes new volunteers.
A special word of thanks to the springs hotel for the use of their facilities last night.

🤝 Shannon Community Partnership meets with Shannon Airport Group

The Board of Shannon Community Partnership was delighted to meet with representatives of The Shannon Airport Group at Shannon Airport for a very positive and constructive discussion.

The meeting provided an opportunity to share our priorities and explore how we can work together to support Shannon, strengthen our community and contribute to the town’s continued development.

We would like to thank Ray O’Driscoll, CEO, Vanessa McTeigue, Commercial Director, and Gerry Dillon, Group Property Director, for taking the time to meet with us and for their engagement with the issues raised.

We look forward to continuing the conversation and exploring opportunities for collaboration.

COMMUNITY IS ABOUT PEOPLE. 💚

One of the things that stood out at our Network the Network event was the importance of connection.
Behind every community organisation, project or initiative are people giving their time, sharing their skills, offering support and helping others feel part of something.
Getting involved isn't always about taking on a big role or committing hours every week. It might be lending a hand, sharing an idea, joining a Task Team or simply coming along to meet people.
Those small steps can create new friendships, build confidence, reduce isolation and give people a real sense of belonging and purpose.

At Shannon Community Partnership, we want our network to be a place where people and organisations connect, support one another and find opportunities to make a difference.
And remember, it's never too late to get involved.

Thank you to everyone who came along on 7 October and helped make the evening such a positive celebration of community.

A FULL HOUSE. A SHARED PURPOSE. A STRONGER SHANNON. 💚

What a fantastic evening at our Network the Network event on Wednesday, 7 October, at the Treacys Oakwood Hotel.

It was wonderful to bring together community groups, organisations, volunteers and people who care about making Shannon an even better place to live, work and belong.

From community safety, sustainability and disability inclusion to arts, culture, heritage and beyond, there are so many ways to get involved and make a difference.

But community is about more than projects and plans. It's about people. It's about connection, friendship, belonging and having a sense of purpose. Sometimes, getting involved in your community is the beginning of something much bigger than you imagined.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, to our Task Team volunteers for the time and energy they give so generously.

Thank you also to Derek Barrett of the Michael Guiney Charitable Foundation for sharing his insights, and to everyone who contributed to making the evening such a positive and welcoming occasion.
Our thanks to Clare Local Development Company for supporting our community video project, and to Paul Corey - Photography & Video for bringing these stories to life. A special word of thanks also to Shannon Chamber for allowing the use of their facilities for the making of our videos.
