Many babies who have needed supplements can go on to breastfeed exclusively (get all the milk they need, directly at the breast).
Whether or not you need or want to keep using supplements, our La Leche League Leaders can help you find a way of feeding that works for you and your baby.

We are celebrating World Down Syndrome Day today!

Babies born with Down Syndrome (and other medical conditions) will benefit from receiving breastmilk even more than other babies, as it will help boost your baby’s immune system and is more easily digestible.

However, nursing a baby with Down Syndrome can also come with unique challenges, so it is important to link in with the appropriate health care providers & breastfeeding supporters to help you and your baby reach your breastfeeding goals.

You can find more information & tips on breastfeeding and additional needs on the La Leche League website:

Our current and retired Leaders gathered on Friday for a special afternoon tea to celebrate our tireless voluntary work for the last 60 years.

We have spent the weekend hearing talks from inspirational women and gathering together in celebration and for the pursuit of continued learning.

On International Women’s Day we reaffirm our commitment to supporting all those who wish to breastfeed their children in Ireland.

Happy International Women's Day from all at La Leche League of Ireland.

It's International Breastfeeding in Public Day!

Did you know that your right to breastfeed your baby free from discrimination or harassment in all public places is protected under Irish law?

Still, feeding your baby in public and away from the comfort of your own home may seem scary at first - especially in a society where breastfeeding is not the norm and you may have never seen another breastfeeding mother out and about.

Joining a local LLL Meeting can be a great start to get more comfortable - you will come across other parents nursing babies and toddlers of various ages, in a warm and supportive environment, and soon you may realize that breastfeeding in public is much more discreet than people might think and you may pick up some helpful tips from fellow group members.
