Shannon A.C. — Proud Hosts of the Clare Community Games Track & Field.
Last month Shannon Athletic Club was delighted to host a portion of the Clare Community Games Track & Field Championships right here in Shannon!
Watching so many young athletes from across Clare compete on our grounds was a truly special reminder of just how important athletics is to our community and to the next generation of Irish sport. 💚
And the exciting news keeps coming...
As many of you will have seen planning permission has recently been granted for a brand new IAAF/Olympic standard 400m running track right here in Shannon!
Events like our Community Games hosting role show exactly why this facility is so needed and so wanted in our community. A world class track in Shannon will mean:
🏃 More children and young people involved in athletics
🏆 Higher level competitions hosted right on our doorstep
💪 Better training facilities for our athletes at every level
🤝 A facility the entire Shannon community can be proud of

What incredible news to share!
Daisy-Jane Kickham-Vesey has been crowned U14 Clare Community Games Shot Put Champion 2026 — retaining her title from last year AND setting a stunning new Personal Best of 10.14m! 🎉

🎉 EXCITING NEWS — Planning Permission Granted!
We are absolutely thrilled to announce that planning permission has been granted for a standard IAAF/Olympic 400m running track in Shannon!
This is a landmark moment for Shannon Athletic Club and for our entire community. A world class athletics facility right here in Shannon will benefit not just our club but every child, athlete and family in the area for generations to come! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️
This has been a long time coming and we could not be more excited about the future! 💚💛

This National Volunteering Week (18th-24th May) we are reaching out to our wonderful Shannon community for some help!
Shannon Athletic Club has been at the heart of Shannon since 1969 and we rely on the goodwill of our community to keep our grounds and facilities in top condition for our athletes.
We are looking for:
🏢 Local businesses — a corporate volunteering day with us would make a huge difference!
🤝 Community groups — let’s work together to keep Shannon A.C. looking its best!

🏆 COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP RECORD — Sean Cleary!
We are absolutely thrilled to share this incredible news!
Shannon A.C.'s own Sean Cleary has set a Clare County Championship Record in the U11 Turbo Javelin with a stunning throw of 34.16m at the Clare Track & Field Championships! 🎉
This is an extraordinary achievement for such a young athlete and a moment that will live long in the memory for Sean and everyone at Shannon A.C.
