Investing in those who lift a nation!

Mayo’s Ryan O’Donoghue joined Tom Parsons and Gemma Begley from the GPA to meet Minister Jack Chambers this week, making the case for increased Government investment in inter-county players.

Mayo’s All-Ireland success showed again the unique power of Gaelic games to lift a county and a country. The economic contribution can be measured, but how do you put a value on the pride, joy, belonging and shared experience our players create?

Our submission calls for greater investment in the players at the heart of our games, helping to make the commitment required to play at the highest level more sustainable. We all want thriving Gaelic games!

Thanks to Minister Chambers for the warm welcome and positive engagement, and with his own Mayo connections, we were happy to continue the All-Ireland celebrations in the Minister’s office!

Great to meet with Minister Seán Canney today alongside GPA CEO Tom Parsons and Galway footballer Shane Walsh 🤝🏻

A really positive discussion on the economic and social value of inter-county players, the wider impact of Gaelic games on communities across Ireland, and the important role players continue to play as role models and in supporting Government initiatives.

We also discussed road safety and the GPA’s continued commitment to advocating for greater awareness across the inter-county playing population and wider Gaelic games community.

We look forward to continuing this positive engagement and working with Minister Canney in the years ahead.

We also appreciated the opportunity to briefly catch up with Minister Noel Grealish during today’s visit.

A strong first season for our Engagement & Development Officers!

In their first year in the role, our eight EDOs delivered 104 squad visits, reaching 83% of all 125 inter-county squads.

The visits included:

🟢 55 female squad visits
🟢 49 male squad visits
🟢 13 squad visits on average per EDO
🟢 40 visits in January, our busiest month

These visits provided an important opportunity to connect directly with players, strengthen relationships and increase awareness of the supports and services available through BEO360.

A huge thank you to Sarah, Matthew, Sarah, Kieran, Laura, Podge, Sinead and Adrian, and to every squad that welcomed them throughout the season.

A brilliant foundation laid in year one and plenty more to build on in season two! 🙌

Well done to all the players who took part in last night’s Hurling for Cancer Research match in Carlow 👏🏻

Players from across the country came together in support of the Irish Cancer Society, helping to raise vital funds for cancer research.

A fantastic initiative that continues to grow year on year. Congratulations to everyone involved in making it such a success!

We are delighted to announce that Charleville GAA, Cork were the winners of the Movember Ahead of the Game (MAOTG) monthly draw for participating clubs in April.

Health Clubs Officer Paula Scully provided the below feedback.

“Thanks to Martin and Julia for really engaging with our U18 players and parents during the Movember Ahead of the Game workshop. The straightforward and relatable advice on how to care for our mental health and how to recognise and deal with mental health struggles resonated with everyone. I would highly recommend this programme to all clubs as an important step to raise awareness of mental health and wellbeing.”

Pictured is our Facilitator Conor Bohane presenting the prize to HCO Paula, Cork and Charleville Hurler, Darragh Fitzgibbon and u18 player participant.
