“It’s an area that we probably don’t train enough.”

Roscommon footballer Diarmuid Murtagh shares why mental fitness deserves the same attention as physical fitness in sport, and how developing mental skills can help athletes navigate setbacks, challenges and emotions both on and off the field.

As part of the Tackle Your Feelings Europe campaign, Diarmuid reflects on the importance of seeking support when needed and believes players are becoming more aware of the role mental fitness plays in performance and wellbeing.

Tackle Your Feelings Europe (TYFE) is a collaborative European project, co-funded by the European Union, dedicated to improving the mental health and wellbeing of athletes, breaking down stigma and empowering players to speak openly about mental health.

Thank you Diarmuid for helping drive the conversation forward. 💙
