NASRA National Ambulance Service Representative Association

NASRA National Ambulance Service Representative Association Since the inception of the independent regulator, PHECC, in 2000, the service has undergone a total clinical transformation.

NASRA represents Ireland’s frontline ambulance clinicians who deliver critical medical care in every environment, from the home to the roadside, along with the emergency controllers who manage every 999 call. We have evolved from an unregulated workforce with minimal skills into a profession of highly skilled ambulance clinicians. Today, our 999 frontline ambulances are crewed by university-educat

ed professionals: Paramedics now hold degree-level qualifications, and Advanced Paramedics are qualified to a Master’s level. This clinical evolution extends to our EMTs operating the Intermediate Care Service, whose medical skills and authority have also greatly advanced. This modernisation has been mirrored in our National Emergency Operations Centre. Our call-takers have grown into expert Emergency Medical Controllers and Dispatchers who coordinate the national 999 response with sophisticated triage protocols and life-saving instructions. No longer providing just basic transport, our practitioners now deliver hospital-grade interventions in your home, your workplace or at the roadside. They are authorised to perform advanced life-saving procedures and administer a vast formulary of over 40 medications, bringing critical care directly to the patient across Ireland. NASRA, as a branch of the PNA union, is proud to serve our ambulance clinicians across all clinical grades in the HSE. Our aims and objectives are to:
- Promote and protect the interests of our members and in particular to provide professional and industrial leadership for the statutory pre-hospital profession;
- To improve statutory rights and benefits of members with improved salaries and condition s of work, through to representing members in relation to work matters;
- To improve career progression and the personal development of our members;
- To ensure a healthy and safe workplace for our members.

Members Update

Dear Colleagues,

The Branch committee having considered the most recent developments regarding the upcoming dispute and wish to advise the following to members.

At present, the NASRA Branch of the PNA is not a party to this industrial dispute and has not balloted members for industrial action. We advise that The NASRA Branch has not been officially contacted by the HSE regarding our position or intentions in
relation to this dispute, nor have we received any formal request from the unions involved seeking support for industrial action. In addition, no request has been received from members seeking that the NASRA Branch initiate a ballot for participation in this dispute.
As a member-driven organisation, NASRA’s position continues to be guided by the direction and engagement of our membership. Accordingly, members rostered for duty are expected to attend work as scheduled and continue to fulfil their contractual and professional responsibilities.

The NASRA Branch respects the right of workers to pursue industrial action and acknowledges the significant concerns that have led to this dispute. Our priority remains the protection of members, patient safety, and the maintenance of safe
service delivery throughout this period.

Members should follow all reasonable requests and operational procedures during the period of action. It is important to note that overtime and additional shifts remain voluntary, and individual members retain discretion regarding the acceptance of such
duties. Where operational pressures arise during the strike period, members may continue to utilise established procedures, including requesting relief crews through NEOC where available and appropriate, while ensuring patient safety remains paramount at all
times.

It is anticipated that NAS operations will function under NASCAP Level 4 arrangements during the period concerned. The Branch Committee is continuously monitoring the situation and engaging with developments as they arise. Members will be kept updated and further guidance will be issued as additional information
becomes available.

Any further developments will be considered, and we will update members accordingly. The Branch Committee will remain available to assist members with any workplace queries during this period.

Thank you for your continued professionalism, support, and commitment.
