This is a butternut squash we grew in the polytunnel this summer. We also grew tomatoes, basil, beans, courgettes, cucumbers and potatoes. We harvested rain water to allow watering during hosepipe ban.
The project was the brain held of Mags with help from Sean, Nora and Liam and Deirdre. The idea was to thank the Day Centre for giving us use of the polytunnel and to join with a local group in a project.
It worked well with lots of produce being used by staff and clients.

Look at the size of this lovely butternut squash harvested today. Well done us.

This video from Cobh Tidy Towns is so inspiring. All ages, all abilities just giving a small amount of their time when they can, it works.

We have been a bit quiet here for a while. Its been a very challenging summer for Tidy Towns everywhere with a huge emphasis on keeping our lovely plants watered.

Thank you to those from our community who stepped in to help. We got over the worst of it but are now missing some very dedicated volunteers due to illness and other issues. We hope they will be back with us soon.

Regardless the planned rejuvenation of our Cathedral Green organised by Cllr. Valerie Byrne has gone ahead and we have 4 lovely new beds for plants. Mags and Deirdre took a trip to Drumsna Garden Centre yesterday to get advice from Geraldine and purchased plants. Two beds are now planted and watered. Thanks Valerie for overseeing the project which is still ongoing .

Going forward we need lots of help. If we want a beautiful town centre we need ongoing help from the community.

Our weekly meet ups at the polytunnel Saturday 10.30 am will continue soon and we really would welcome new volunteers for a cup of tea and a chat afterwards.

Well done Cloontuskert

We are so excited and incredibly proud that Cloontuskert will feature on RTÉ One tonight at 7 pm, as part of the ‘Building Ireland’ programme series showcasing the unique character and heritage of our region.

Cloontuskert has a very special story to tell - and tonight, viewers across Ireland will get a glimpse of our unique village architecture and fascinating history as Roscommon’s only Bord na Móna village. 🏡

From its distinctive planned layout and architecture to the surrounding landscape, heritage and the community that makes it so special, Cloontuskert is a truly unique part of our local story.

It is fantastic to see our area, including Cloontuskert and the greater Lanesborough region, receiving this national spotlight and to have the beauty, character and history of rural communities showcased to audiences around the country.

As Cloontuskert Tidy Towns, we are incredibly proud of our village and delighted to see its unique architectural heritage and Bord na Móna history recognised.

We can’t wait to see Cloontuskert on the national stage.
