Laurence Gilson Summer School

Laurence Gilson Summer School A Summer School established to commemorate the legacy of Laurence Gilson in 2012.

The focus of the Summer School was on education, with the aim of providing a forum for teachers, learners & policy makers to explore all aspects of education. The Laurence Gilson Summer School was established in 2011 to provide a forum for everyone involved and interested in education. We are interested in debate, ideas, strategies, insights, sharings and learnings from parents, teachers, learners

, politicians, policy-makers and philosophers - not just in Ireland, but from all around the world. We'd like to think that Ireland - the Land of Saints & Scholars - could provide a home for debate, argument, dissent, agreement, brainstorms - anything that furthers the learning as we move into a future which we can hardly even begin to imagine.

So sorry to hear the news about John Quinn this morning. He took part in our Summer School twice - interviewing Thomas Packenham and pictured below in the former Matthews Auction Rooms in Oldcastle with Manchán Magan.

John was a legend in broadcasting. He made actual programmes which required thought, research and application to produce them. He covered topics both esoteric and mundane and made them lively, entertaining and educational. You always learned something from listening to John or one of his guests. His voice is a huge loss. RIP.
