Do you have a story to tell about your community?

We are seeking expressions of interest for a Podcasting Training Programme designed to help participants record, preserve and share the stories, history, people and events that make our communities unique.

Whether you're interested in documenting local heritage, interviewing community members, capturing memories of past events, promoting local festivals, or creating content about issues that matter in your area, this course will provide the skills and confidence to get started.

Participants will learn the fundamentals of podcast production, including planning interviews, recording high-quality audio, editing content and publishing episodes online.

This is a fantastic opportunity for community groups, heritage enthusiasts, festival committees, volunteers and anyone with an interest in storytelling to create a lasting record of local life and celebrate the rich culture and traditions of our region.

The Relove Paint Community Paint Grant Scheme 2026 is well underway, with 58 community groups set to receive 15 litres of remixed paint over the coming months. We are delighted with the support from Cork County Council to be able to help communities refresh and enhance local facilities while promoting reuse and waste prevention.

We were also proud to see Jessica Baron represent Relove Paint at Bord Bia Bloom 2026, where she joined a sustainability panel discussion on paint reuse and waste prevention. The session proved hugely popular with visitors, who received samples of remixed paint along with information on how small actions can make a big difference in reducing waste and supporting a circular economy.

The family GP is still often the first port of call for somebody experiencing challenges to their mental health, and we are delighted that our local GP, Dr Brendan Payne of Woodbrook Family Practice in Newmarket, will be joining us as a panellist at the IRD Duhallow Rural Mental Health Conference. We look forward to hearing Dr Payne’s insights on the realities on the ground for those in the community that he supports.
Tickets for the IRD Duhallow Rural Mental Health Conference are €15 and available via our website: https://www.irdduhallow.com/events/ird-duhallow-rural-mental-health-conference/

Peer support is when people with shared experiences come together to support one another. In mental health, it means individuals who have faced similar challenges - whether personally or through supporting a loved one - connect in a safe and understanding environment.
There are many benefits to joining a peer support group:
A Safe and Understanding Space – Talk openly with others who have been through lived experiences and truly understand.
An Additional Support, Not a Replacement – Peer support works alongside Mental Health Services, offering a community of understanding and encouragement.
Reduce Feelings of Isolation – Knowing you're not alone can be reassuring and empowering.
Share & Learn – Gain new coping strategies, hear different perspectives, and share what has helped you.
Build Confidence & Resilience – Being part of a supportive group can help strengthen your self-belief and ability to manage challenges.
No Pressure, Just Support – You can participate at your own pace - whether you prefer to share or just listen.

IRD Duhallow, the Rural Community Health Project and ConnectWell are working together to bring this approach to Duhallow in the form of a weekly Mental Health Peer Support Group. However, we need your help! We are inviting members of our community to volunteer to be leaders in this Peer Support Group. We will hold an information morning on June 10th at 10am where anyone interested can ask questions and get a better sense of what’s involved.
For more information, or to book your place at our information morning, please call 029 60633 or email [email protected]
