IRD Duhallow Horticulture Training Initiative

IRD Duhallow Horticulture Training Initiative IRD Duhallow’s Horticulture Training Initiative is a Community Based Programme specifically aimed at individuals in receipt of a Social Welfare Payment.

Funded through Cork ETB it is a 44 week programme where participants can gain the skills necessary to grow their own produce, learn landscaping techniques and perhaps go on to further training, set up a business, or gain employment. Learners are based in both classroom and garden settings, providing a good balance of learning styles throughout. Participants are encouraged to take responsibility fo

r their own learning, encouraging an environment of self-motivation. This course is offered by IRD Duhallow CLG in partnership with SOLAS (FAS) Training Services. On full completion of the course, participants will receive a FETAC Level 4 Major Award in Horticulture, which includes the following training modules:

• Plant Identification, care and maintenance
• Safe Horticulture Practice
• Growing Vegetables
• Growing Fruit
• Plant Propagation
• Hard Landscape Construction
• Establishing Turfgrass
• Work Experience
• Information Technology Skills
• Personal Effectiveness
