A historic feat is looking to be repeated tomorrow.
The last time Cork won both the Intermediate and Junior club hurling double was in 2011 when
Meelin beat John Lockes in the junior decider and
Ballymartle defeated Dicksboro in the intermediate final.

When Tynagh/Abbey-Duniry were relegated from the Galway senior championship in 2022, and were looking for a new manager to get them back up the following year, there was only one logical starting point in that search – Mattie Kenny.

🇮🇪**Meelin and the House of Commons**🇮🇪

On at least two occasions in the 19th Century, Meelin village was catapulted onto the global stage as British lawmakers in Westminster deliberated on the nationalist movement's influence in Meelin. This was at a time where the British Empire was one of the largest empires in history, covering about a quarter of the world's land area.

Firstly, on December 6th, 1888, Members of Parliament (MEPs) discussed the nationalist movement that was having a profound impact, the Meelin branch of the National (Land) League (see attached image)

A few months later, a query was made in the House of Commons regarding the imprisonment of Meelin parish priest, Father Michael Kennedy. Father Kennedy was a national hero in Ireland from his work with the Land Leage, supporting farmers and the poor in their struggles with high rent. He also founded the famous "Meelin Cavalry". Father Kennedy spent a total of 5 months in prison for these activities.
In March 1889, Father Kennedy's requests to fulfill his priestly obligations in prison, were heard in Westminster. (See attached photo).

Following yesterday's final, Meelin man/hurler and Rockchapel Gaa footballer, Michael McAulliffe (Knockacummer), has been confirmed as the top scorer from play in this year's Cork Premier Senior Football Championship.

Safe to say he's the first Meelin man to achieve such a feat 👏
