An update from Newcastle Tidy Towns.
Our small group of volunteers are busy at the moment trying to get our village ready for Tidy Towns judging. We are now asking for help with a number of projects still to be carried out.If you are not in a position to help on a Saturday maybe a few people or a club might take on one of the following chores at a time or evening that suits them.
1. Clean up of Athgoe Road up to the corner of Lyons Road and cleaning the signs which are hard to read.
2.Clean up of Stream across from Community Hall.
3.Weeding along School Road.
4.Weeding along entrance to Aylmer Heath
5 Weeding along entrance to Newcastle Lyons at junction of Aylmer Road.
6 General clean up along Main Street and litter picking.
We plan to make a start on Saturday week
and continue the following week.
So that will be clean up week in Newcastle.
Our Tidy Towns boundary stretches from Greenogue Roundabout right down through the village to Athgoe Road including all the entrances to new estates.
Please try to help out and prove that community spirit is still alive in Newcastle.
MANY HANDS MAKE LIGHT WORK.
Please .let us know if you can take on one of the tasks either on FB .messenger or inform any of our volunteers.

Newcastle Tidy Towns are very pleased with the response to the WEE electrical recycling which took place over the weekend. Thanks also to Supervalu for allowing the use of the car park.
Just to give people an update on the replacement of bins and the provision of extra bins which are so badly needed. We got information from SDCC today that Newcastle will NOT get solar bins for the foreseeable future. This is so annoying and Tidy Towns are not happy .As usual Newcastle is the forgotten village and always at the end of the queue.
On a separate note we are looking for extra helpers .After all the work done by the small group of volunteers is for the benefit of the community. At the moment watering is an issue with the dry weather. We have a large number of beds and planters. There are also some litter issues in a few black spots.
Tidy Towns are planning a big clean up on Saturday 23rd May.It will be an opportunity for people to give us some help.
We would also appreciate if people could do some watering or even adopt a bed if you live near one.
Thank you to all the people who keep grass cut and have painted walls. It is all helpful to Tidy Towns as the entry for this year has been submitted today .Thanks to Fergal for giving up his time to put it together.
More information on the clean up nearer the time.

Newcastle Tidy Towns are organising a WEE electrical goods collection this weekend. The crates will be located in Supervalu car park from Friday evening 8th till Sunday 10th. Tidy Towns would like to thank the Management of Supervalu for facilitating this event. Please note it is ONLY for electrical goods ie any item which has a plug or battery. .Can we also remind residents to place the items in the crates and not leave stuff thrown around. Please respect the generosity of Supervalu. It is an ideal opportunity for people to get rid of electrical items that may be taking up room for quite a while.

Would like to let residents know about an information evening taking place on this Monday evening in Newcastle Community Hall at 6pm. Experts will be present to give information on home energy efficiency ,retro fitting grants ,heat pumps , solar panels and solar energy.Eirgrid are hosting the evening. The audience will then have a Q & A session at the end.It is a free event and will be chaired by Brian Redmond who appeared on DWTS on TV. We encourage as many people as possible to attend particularly if you're interested in energy saving in the future.

Newcastle Tidy Towns are quite annoyed and very disappointed with the removal of so much hedging at the end of Aylmer Road as you head towards Baldonnel. We are constantly being reminded and made aware of biodiversity and this is disgraceful. The protection of wildlife doesn't seem to matter to some people and of course it's also approaching nesting time. All our green spaces and natural habitats are being destroyed with no regard for biodiversity.
