A big Thank You to the Navan unit of An Garda Síochána Meath for saving this little kitten. It's a little boy, only about three weeks old. He still needs kitten formula and doesn't seem to understand solid foods yet, so he would have never survived without the kindness of the gardaí who rescued him and brought him to our sanctuary. He is currently with one of our foster families getting lots of love and being syringe-fed every couple of hours. He is a quiet, very sweet and such a joyful baby. We wish him to grow strong and healthy!

Big thank you to Bockety Box for regularly dropping off leftover leaves and unsaleable, odd-shaped veg for our animals 🥬🥕🐐

Produce doesn’t need to look perfect to be nutritious, and our animals certainly don’t mind the wonky carrots or funny-shaped greens. It’s lovely seeing food that might otherwise go to waste put to good use instead.

Really appreciate your generosity and your commitment to reducing food waste while helping feed happy animals 💚

Thank you to every volunteer who helps at the sanctuary, and to everyone who chooses compassion every day.

Life can be a cruel place, but it becomes so much better because of people with warm and open hearts in it.

People who care, who show up, and who make this world gentler for animals and for each other.

Thank you for all that you do 🤍

** 25K Boyne Valley Camino Challenge – May 2026 **

Tomorrow, 23d May, our dedicated volunteers and supporters will be taking on the 25K Boyne Valley Camino to raise vital funds for Back Into Daylight Animal Sanctuary.

This is no small undertaking, and that’s exactly why it matters! Each step they take represents support for more than 450 rescued animals who depend on the sanctuary for food, medical care and a comfortable place to spend the rest of their lives. The majority of the animals at the sanctuary are old, battling with chronic illnesses or recovering from situations of abuse and neglect and they rely on us for safety, love and rehabilitation.

🩷🙏 If you can, please support our volunteers by donating or even just sharing this post.

You can contribute to the fundraiser here:
https://www.idonate.ie/event/25KmBoyneValleyCamino
Alternatively, you can choose to support an individual volunteer in their challenge by donating through their personal fundraiser via the same link.

We are so thankful to everyone taking part in this challenge and wish them the very best on the day 🙌✨

Cows are deeply emotional and social animals. They form strong friendships, recognise each other for years, and mothers bond closely with their calves shortly after birth. Yet in the dairy industry calves are often separated from their mothers within hours or days so the milk can be collected for human consumption. Female calves are usually raised to become dairy cows themselves, while many male calves are sold into the veal or beef industry or are just killed at birth.

Humans are also the only species that regularly drinks another animal’s milk into adulthood. In fact, around 65% of the global population is lactose intolerant after infancy, meaning many people naturally lose the ability to properly digest lactose (the sugar found in milk).

Plant-based milks like oat, soy, almond and coconut offer alternatives that can provide calcium, vitamins and nutrients without separating calves from their mothers. They also tend to have a lower environmental impact and are suitable for people who are lactose intolerant.

Choosing plant-based options is not just about food, it’s about compassion, sustainability and questioning systems we’ve been taught are “normal.”

Turkeys are highly social and curious birds, known for recognising voices and responding to human attention.

This one was allegedly involved in an incident at the sanctuary, so a formal investigation had to take place. Halfway through the questioning, a rooster interrupted from the distance clearly word had already spread around the farm 🐓 🦃

Follow us to learn what other dramas are taking place back into daylight!

Did you know that broiler chickens are bred to grow so unnaturally fast that, if a human baby grew at the same rate, the baby would weigh about 300 kilograms (over 650 pounds) at just two months old?

Or that young male chickens, are among the forgotten animals of the food system. In the egg industry, billions are killed shortly after hatching because they cannot lay eggs and do not grow fast enough for profitable meat production.

Thankfully these boys are in a safe place. Each of them have their own personality and each of them feel fear as much as love.

Follow us to follow their journey as well as a journey of all the other animals that are with us and don’t share the tragic faith of billions of other animals around the world.

As you can hear in the video, Tidge’s early years were not easy. She was eventually brought back to health by Declan’s friend, who sadly had to move away. Along with another cat, Barry, Tidge was then left at the sanctuary, where she has been loved and cared for ever since.

Tidge is now 15 years old and enjoying her retirement years as best she can. She absolutely loves snuggles and has such a gentle, wonderful nature. Around two and a half years ago, she suffered a stroke, but she recovered incredibly well. She also has kidney problems and takes tablets every day, but she continues to do amazingly well despite it all.

We’ve had Tidge with us for years now, and she remains a very special girl ❤️

Adopt don’t shop, and remember cats are a family 🐈‍⬛💖
