FACE OF NAAS

FACE OF NAAS A group of Naas residents, committed to improving the face of the town and the quality of the experi We'd love to hear from you!

We are a group of Naas residents who came together through a strong conviction that Naas has the potential to be a more diverse, vibrant, accessible and aesthetically pleasing experience for residents and visitors alike. Lockdown served to heighten our awareness of aspects of the town that are being neglected and other aspects that were not being developed to their full potential. Within our group

we have a mix of expertise, experience and enthusiasm including planning, urban design, landscape design, project management, IT and community development. We are committed to supporting the improvement of Naas both functionally and aesthetically. This will improve the quality of life for those living and working in Naas, and for visitors to our town. With the investment of time, energy, and funding, a significant amount could be done to improve Naas and the quality of the experience for everyone. Even small creative and quality initiatives can instil civic pride, interest and community engagement and will generate new initiatives greater creativity, and higher standards. We would like to inspire people in Naas to imagine, and to be part of making Naas a more attractive and enjoyable place to live! If you'd like to hear more or get involved please contact us on [email protected].

Hi all it's been a while but just because we've been quiet doesn't mean we haven't been busy. We're busy researching and working on projects to get to the KCC table and get actioned. A lot of our focus is on the enhancement of Naas town and we prioritise projects based on impact and cost.
All worthwhile projects take time and even the small wins are big wins. So we were delighted when we managed to pressurise the powers that be (Turned out it was Eir) to remove the antisocial eyesore that was Chapel Lane Phone Box . It took lots of persistence, calls/texts but happily it has finally been removed. 🙂
It shows that a lot of the time it is down to community pressure and if we can put pressure on the powers that be we can make things happen.
Ok this is not exactly 'new news' - (it was removed at the end of the Summer) but some of you have not noticed and it is a good news story so worth posting again ( Ball on the ball!).
We are a community group and so we want to keep connecting and working with the community. We were reminded today of the need to keep sharing any progress so we will do our best to keep you posted on anything we feel is important and relevant.
If you’d like to work with us or learn more about what we do, please PM us, we'd love to hear from you.
Many thanks. FON

FACE OF NAAS shares the frustration expressed in the post by a follower of Naas Ball (see below). In its mission statement KCC speaks of ‘improving the quality of life of all citizens. ‘delivering efficient accessible services, collaboration, inclusion and community engagement. Despite these aspirations we see little of this in many of the actions of KCC.

The Public Parklet’ and Poplar Square projects are just two, of many examples of the lack of consultation, competence or accountability in many projects that directly impact residents. For example, in responding to criticism of the design of the Parklet by residents, some of our elected Councillors showed themselves either unwilling or unable to listen to legitimate concerns e.g. - anybody who was critical of the Parklet was simply a ‘moaner’, that ‘change was difficult for people’.
Naas residents' legitimate criticisms have been in relation to the aesthetics, location, cost and accessibility/ functionality of both the Parklet, and seating in Poplar Square. We find it extremely disappointing that members of KCC could be so dismissive of the legitimate observations and concerns of Naas residents.

Social media is a legitimate platform for communities to express opinions, particularly when, despite their mission statement, Kildare County Council doesn’t appear very eager to engage with the local community on many local issues and projects.

To label concerned residents who use social media to express a legitimate opinion as ‘moaners’ is unbecoming of any member of KCC and particularly public representatives. To further suggest that “when people complain it means the Council is doing something right” belittles what is a cornerstone of the democratic process i.e. local people’s right to a have a voice in how the town is managed and developed.

FACE OF NAAS is delighted to welcome new members or to engage with residents on any public realm issue. We are a small group of Naas residents who simply want to see the best for Naas. Please send us a DM for further info.😀
