The club is pleased to present the outline of our Beginners Course for the coming year. It is intended that the course will run over four evenings and one afternoon with a practical workshop in our Apiary in Multyfarnham. All instruction will be provided by members of LCBA who are not professional instructors; they are sharing their expertise on an entirely voluntary basis. Beginners are invited to attend the general club evenings in addition to the course evenings listed below. Classes will be held in รras an Mhuilinn (beside the Arts Centre), Mullingar on the following dates at 8:00pm unless otherwise stated.
Feb 24th GENERAL CLUB MEETING WITH GUEST SPEAKER TO BE CONFIRMED.
1. MARCH 3RD Occupants of the beehive.
2. MARCH 10TH Structure of the bee hive.
MARCH 24TH GENERAL CLUB MEETING WITH GUEST SPEAKER TO BE CONFIRMED.
3. MARCH 31ST Honey; production and extraction / Wax for candle making
4. April (TBC) Workshop on frame and hive assembly in the Apiary at Multyfarnham Friary (will be held at the weekend rather than during the week).
APRIL 21ST GENERAL CLUB MEETING WITH GUEST SPEAKER Paul Keane at 7:00pm
5. APRIL 28TH Honey bee health, hive health, beekeeping hygiene, and best general practice.
The cost will be โฌ200 per person.
This includes the beginners course, membership of LCBA, insurance from FIBKA (from 1st January 2026 to 31st December 2026), monthly magazine from FIBKA, and access to all Apiary inspections for the 2026 season.
Apiary visits are the best way to acquire hands-on practice of handling bees.
If you decide the beginner course is not appropriate to your needs for now, please be aware that you are welcome to continue to attend our monthly meetings in the รras.
