So many wonderful days out in our Apiary in Multyfarnham, great to see the bees thriving and bringing in plenty of pollen in that good weather! Another sunny afternoon in the apiary! Club hive inspections, all our ladies in good shape, doing their little jobs, bringing in pollen and working away! Looking forward to a good season this year!

🍯🐝 What a beautiful day we had on Saturday for our first Apiary visit of 2026! We couldn't have asked for better! The sun was shining, the bees were out and about and we had a myriad of different experiences in each hive we opened! Honey in some, frames to be swapped in others, the Queen marked and plenty of hands on learning for our newcomers! An excellent start to the season! Our next Club meeting will take place on Tuesday 21st April in Áras an Mhuilinn, Mullingar at 7:00pm. We have arranged a visit from Paul Keane to discuss insurance issues that are relevant to beekeepers. All are welcome to attend! Charge €5 members, €10 non members. Refreshments will be served afterwards!

The Honey Bee ✅️ All about Honey ✅️ Two more weeks of our Beginners Course over! Excellent presentations by our own committee members Michael and Geraldine. Many interesting facts and information imparted. Looking forward to our first Apiary visit so we can put all our new knowledge to use!

Great attendance at this year's Beginners Course! Presented by our own club member Ian, we learned about the different parts of the hive, the life cycle of the honey bee and other interesting facts he provided along the way! Looking forward to part 2 tonight in Arás an Mhuillinn, Mullingar.

Receiving great feedback after our first Club Meeting of the year on Tuesday night. Thanks to our own club members Ian and Noel for an amazing presentation! Plenty of humour, information and helpful tips for the beekeeping year ahead - there was learning for everyone regardless of experience! The club is pleased to present the outline of our Beginners Course for the coming year. It is intended that the course will run over four evenings and one afternoon with a practical workshop in our Apiary in Multyfarnham. All instruction will be provided by members of LCBA who are not professional instructors; they are sharing their expertise on an entirely voluntary basis. Beginners are invited to attend the general club evenings in addition to the course evenings listed below. Classes will be held in Áras an Mhuilinn (beside the Arts Centre), Mullingar on the following dates at 8:00pm unless otherwise stated.

Feb 24th GENERAL CLUB MEETING WITH GUEST SPEAKER TO BE CONFIRMED.

1. MARCH 3RD Occupants of the beehive.

2. MARCH 10TH Structure of the bee hive.

MARCH 24TH GENERAL CLUB MEETING WITH GUEST SPEAKER TO BE CONFIRMED.

3. MARCH 31ST Honey; production and extraction / Wax for candle making

4. April (TBC) Workshop on frame and hive assembly in the Apiary at Multyfarnham Friary (will be held at the weekend rather than during the week).

APRIL 21ST GENERAL CLUB MEETING WITH GUEST SPEAKER Paul Keane at 7:00pm

5. APRIL 28TH Honey bee health, hive health, beekeeping hygiene, and best general practice.

The cost will be €200 per person.

This includes the beginners course, membership of LCBA, insurance from FIBKA (from 1st January 2026 to 31st December 2026), monthly magazine from FIBKA, and access to all Apiary inspections for the 2026 season.

Apiary visits are the best way to acquire hands-on practice of handling bees.

If you decide the beginner course is not appropriate to your needs for now, please be aware that you are welcome to continue to attend our monthly meetings in the Áras.
