An Garda Síochána, in partnership with the Road Safety Authority Ireland and other stakeholders, will carry out a 24-hour nationwide speed enforcement operation on Monday 31 August as part of National Day.

The initiative will run from 12:01am to 11:59pm on Monday 31 August, aiming to promote safer driving and reduce speed-related collisions nationwide, coinciding with increased road use as children and students head .

Linda-Jo Quinn WCD SICAP Community Development Co-ordinator was invited to attend the Westmeath Pride of Place Judges visit to Esker House Domestic Abuse Support Service on Wednesday 26th August.

The Judges were very impressed by the service that Esker House offers and the links it has made with the private sector on the purple hand initiative Domestic Violence is sadly a serious issue in our community and is classless. Over 1,000 crisis calls were dealt with in 2025.

Linda-Jo has supported Esker House in many ways over the years and looks forward to continuing the collaboration. WCD would like to wish Esker House Domestic Abuse Support Service every success in the competition.

🎄 Christmas Lighting Grant Assistance 2026 🎄

For the past number of years, Westmeath County Council has provided financial assistance to Tidy Towns groups and community/business groups to help purchase, erect and maintain Christmas lighting in towns and villages across the county.

Westmeath County Council is pleased to confirm that financial provision has once again been made in the Council's budget to provide similar grant assistance this year.

The scheme aims to support local communities in enhancing the festive atmosphere of their towns and villages, helping to create welcoming and vibrant spaces for residents and visitors alike during the Christmas season.
