π Busy Two Weeks for the Mullingar Unit π
The past two weeks have been another busy period for the volunteers of the Mullingar Unit, providing medical cover and community support at a variety of events while continuing our vital Patient Transport Service.
π Saturday 30th May
Our volunteers started the day at Mullingar Rugby Club, providing medical cover for the Westmeath Minotaurs' American Football fixture against the South Dublin Panthers. Congratulations to the Minotaurs on their well-earned victory.
Later that day, crews moved to TEG Cusack Park for the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Round 1 clash between Westmeath and Cavan. With two ambulance crews on duty and volunteers patrolling both inside and outside the grounds, we were on hand throughout a thrilling encounter that saw Westmeath claim victory after extra time.
π Sunday 31st May
Our ambulance and jeep travelled to Timahoe Heritage Festival in Co. Laois, which was a great day out for everyone. Thanks to Order of Malta Ireland Ambulance Corps - Portlaoise for asking us to cover this one.
The same day, two of our incredible Cadet Leaders took on the VHI Women's Mini Marathon to raise much needed funds for our Cadet Unit. We are incredibly proud of their achievement and grateful for their continued dedication to supporting and developing the next generation of Order of Malta volunteers. ππββοΈπ
π₯ Throughout the week
Our Patient Transport Service continued to support members of the community, ensuring patients could attend important hospital and medical appointments safely and comfortably.
π Saturday 6th June
We returned to Mullingar Rugby Club for another Westmeath Minotaurs fixture. Despite a determined effort, the Minotaurs were defeated by a strong Northwest Vipers side.
The same day also marked an important milestone for our newest volunteers, who began their First Aid Responder (FAR) training course at our garage in Columb Barracks. We wish them every success as they begin their journey with Order of Malta and develop the skills needed to serve their communities.
π Sunday 7th June
A crew of volunteers was deployed in our jeep to provide medical cover and support at Navan Races.
The same day, our student EMT Katie took part in the EMT Class 27 Major Incident Event training.
None of this would be possible without the dedication and commitment of our volunteers, who continue to give their time to support communities across Westmeath and beyond. Whether providing event medical cover, transporting patients, supporting community events, fundraising for our cadets, or undertaking training, every contribution makes a difference.
