Embrace FARM

Embrace FARM Embrace FARM remembers and supports farm families affected by a serious injury or sudden death🕯️

Reach out to tell us your story. Laois called Shanahoe.

Registered Charity # 20149956 | CHY21837 Embrace FARM has been founded by Brian & Norma Rohan. Here in Brian's words are why Embrace FARM was set up. "FARMING remains the country's most dangerous job. Unfortunately my family was most forcefully made aware of this fact on Tuesday 19th of June 2012 when my Dad was tragically involved in an accident on our family farm and sadly passed away on the fol

lowing Friday, the 22nd June 2012. My name is Brian Rohan and our family farm is based in a small village in Co. Following an accident on our family farm and the subsequent devastating loss of my Father, Liam Rohan from our lives, we quickly came to realise that there is little or no help as regard supports available to families that have lost loved ones by way of emotional, practical, business, legal & financial advice. Almost 200 people, adults and children have lost their lives in farming accidents over the past 10 years. In honour and remembrance to these people my wife Norma and I organise an annual Remembrance Service. It is an Ecumenical service held in the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Abbeyleix, Co. Laois on the last Sunday of June annually. We also remember those who have survived serious accidents at the service and aim to create more awareness of farm safety especially as the National Schools get their summer holidays around this time. The aim is to develop this event into to an annual remembrance and to develop various support structures to hopefully help families in any way possible come to terms with the irreplaceable loss of their loved ones. We hope to do this by growing Embrace FARM as a support to all those affected by Sudden Death and Serious Injury within the Farm Family."

"To live in the hearts of others is to never die in those we leave behind." - Carl Sagan

As part of our annual Remembrance Service, we decorate the altar with framed photos of loved ones who have died from farm families across Ireland and read their names aloud, no matter when their passing may have been. This is a way to celebrate their life and hold space for those in the church pews and at home missing and grieving them.

If you are an immediate family member of the deceased and would like your loved one to be added to our Remembrance List, please send us:

🕯️ Your loved one's name
🕯️ The year they died
🕯️ The county they're from/lived
🕯️ A photo of your loved one

Please send these to [email protected] or WhatsApp message to 0857709966 before Thursday, June 25th.

The Service will be held on Sunday, June 28th at 2pm in the Church of the Most Holy Rosary, Abbeyleix, Laois and will be livestreamed on the Embrace FARM page for those who can't make it in person.

A problem shared is a problem halved 🤝

Peer support is one of the most important tools for a person who is living with grief after a sudden loss. We see those in our support groups make meaningful friendships and are able to speak with others who understand what they're going through the most.

We currently offer two support groups at Embrace FARM: our Widows Group, for those who have lost a spouse or partner, and our Survivors Group, for those who have survived a life-changing accident, injury, or illness. If you would like to learn more about our support groups, please visit embracefarm.com/support-groups or get in touch with us to tell us your story.

Together, we are stronger 🤝

Norma gratefully had the opportunity to present to the North South Ministerial Council alongside Gyles Dawson from Rural Support on Friday. Their presentation focused on the importance of cross-border collaboration between Embrace FARM and Rural Support to best support farm families.

Thank you to Minister Martin Heydon, Minister Andrew Muir MLA, Junior Minister Aisling Reilly MLA, and Junior Minister Joanne Bunting MLA for listening to our hopes of a stronger future for farm families across the island.

An additional thank you to our friends at Rural Support for their on-going support and connection for the work we do, just as we have for the work they do for farm families in Northern Ireland.

Join us for our annual Remembrance Service🕯️

Our Annual Ecumenical Remembrance Service will be held on Sunday, June 28th at 2p.m. in Church of the Most Holy in Abbeyleix, Co. Laois, and we would be delighted if you could join us.

The Service is a space for us to come together and remember our loved ones who have died or been seriously injured within farm families across the decades.

Each year, the names of those who have died are read out as part of the Remembrance List and their photo is placed on the altar alongside others who have lost their life within farming families. If you would like your loved one to be added to the Remembrance List, please send their name, year of death and the county they are from along with a photo by WhatsApp message to 0857709966 or email [email protected].

We look forward to seeing you there💚

2014 to 2026 - 12 years of Embrace FARM 💚

What started with one family, the Rohans, has grown into a charity that now supports 700 farm families across Ireland after a sudden loss. Connecting these families is a thread of grief, trauma and shock, started by those who understand the grief of a sudden loss first hand.

Throughout the 12 years, each of those families have been supported wherever they are in their journey living with loss. We connect their thread with other farm families through peer support, with professionals across practical and emotional support, and with organisations that walk beside them.
