Joe Mc Guire became actively involved in su***de awareness as far back as 2002 after reading a newspaper article from The Sun (April 12, 2002) entitled ‘ Cops ‘Sorry’ for Su***de Man Quip’. The story involved a man who died by su***de seconds after a police man told him to “Crack on, I’ll call an undertaker.”
The story showcased how little su***de was talked about and understood by the general public (including the police) at that time. Although awareness has improved over the years, mental health issues (depression and anxiety etc.) that are linked to su***de are somewhat misunderstood or not represented enough.
