📢 Wednesday Night Was a Wake-Up Call — And an Outrage
The Wind Turbine Regulation Bill was our chance to secure basic, essential protections for rural families — proper setback distances, real noise controls, and updated guidelines that should have existed two decades ago.
Instead, our community was left completely exposed.
And here’s the hard truth:
❌ Dara Calleary
❌ Alan Dillon
❌ Keira Keogh
All chose to support the Government’s delay — kicking our safety, our concerns, and our future down the road for yet another year.
Another year of outdated 2006 guidelines.
Another year where planning decisions barrel ahead without protections.
Another year where ordinary families pay the price.
This is not representation.
This is not leadership.
This is abandoning the people who elected you.
Why does this matter so much?
Because Mayo is already carrying more than it's fair share- and now it's being lined up for even more industrial -scale wind development.
Mayo already hosts Irelands largest on shore windfarm
đź’¨Oweninny Wind Farm -78 turbines across 3 phases
As well as
đź’¨Sheskin Wind Farm-18 turbines
đź’¨Killala Wind Farm - 6 turbines
đź’¨Bonniconlon Wind Farm - 13 turbines
That's 115 turbines already built- before the next even begins.
And according to Cllr. Loftus, North Mayo is set to host up to 500 wind turbines. And that’s not speculation — we already know about massive projects moving through the system:
💨Tirawley Windfarm – 16 turbines
💨Keerglen Windfarm – 8 turbines
💨Glenora – 22 turbines
💨Cooneal – 14 turbines
💨Muingmore Windfarm – 13 turbines
That’s 73 turbines we know about right now — and there are plenty more being discussed quietly behind the scenes.
This is exactly why updated regulations are critical.
This is why this vote mattered.
And this is why the actions of our TDs are simply unacceptable.
Our community is facing an industrial-scale transformation of our landscape — and instead of standing with us, our TDs chose delay, silence, and party loyalty.
We are angry — and we have every right to be.
We will not forget this, and we will not stay quiet.
Our fight continues — louder now than ever.
