Pope Leo XIV to lead worldwide Rosary for Peace.

At the conclusion of the Marian month, on Saturday May 30, at 19:00 hours, the Holy Father will preside over the prayer of the Holy Rosary in the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes, in the Gardens Vaticans.

On this occasion, all Shrines of the world will be invited to join together, with their respective pilgrims and the faithful, in prayer with the Holy Father. Large Shrines have already joined the initiative: the Shrine of the Mother of God (Zarvanytsia, Ukraine); the International Shrine of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage (Antipolo, Philippines); the Shrine of Our lady of the Rosary (Fatima, Portugal); the Shrine Of Our Lady Queen of the Peace (Medjugorje, Bosnia and Herzegovina); the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes (Lourdes, France); the Sanctuary of St. Charbel Annaya (Biblos, Lebanon); the Pontifical Sanctuary of the Holy House (Loreto, Italy) and the International Marian Shrine in Knock, Co Mayo (Ireland).

Amid escalating conflict in the Holy Land, the May 2026 newsletter of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem – Lieutenancy of Ireland offers a striking blend of reflection, resilience and renewed commitment. Marking its 40th anniversary, the Irish Lieutenancy looks back on four decades of service while confronting a present defined by humanitarian crisis, economic collapse and the urgent needs of Christian communities across the region.

The issue opens with a sober assessment of conditions on the ground: war has halted tourism, driven unemployment to alarming levels and left many Christians dependent on Church-led support. Despite these challenges, the Order’s global contributions reached a record €23.5 million, underlining a sustained international response. The Irish Lieutenancy’s own contribution—over €250,000—reflects strong engagement from a comparatively small membership.

A central theme throughout is solidarity in adversity. Reports from the Holy Land Commission highlight a shift toward long-term resilience, including job creation, education, and economic development initiatives. Meanwhile, urgent appeals focus attention on increasing violence in West Bank communities and the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza.

Closer to home, the newsletter documents vibrant spiritual and communal life: the installation of a new Lieutenant, gatherings in Knock, and reflections on peace, pilgrimage and faith. The anniversary celebrations at Holy Cross Abbey serve as both a commemoration and a call to future service.

The launch of the “Friends of the Order” initiative signals a widening of participation beyond formal membership, inviting broader public involvement in supporting the Holy Land. Across its pages, the newsletter presents a Church community responding to crisis not only with charity, but with cohesion, faith and a forward-looking vision rooted in both tradition and practical action.
