Experiential learning this week at training with an ambulance orientation refresher for our team.

This helps us best support ambulance crews when we're on calls and gives diversity to our training to keep us on our toes !

Did you know Critical CFR - Macroom operates as part of a network of volunteer community first responder schemes across Ireland.

Under the umbrella of Critical - Emergency Medical Response our volunteer responders focus on providing life saving interventions in and for our local communities.

Critical provides the charity based funding, governance, and clinical standards that enable our volunteers to train, respond, and support people facing medical emergencies when every second counts.

🚨 In 2025, demand for our emergency response reached unprecedented levels.

New figures show a 54% increase in emergency calls, with our community first responder groups, volunteer doctors and paramedics responding to over 2,000 medical and trauma incidents nationwide up from just over 1,300 the year before.

Behind every call is a real emergency. Cardiac arrests. Strokes. Road traffic collisions. Moments where rapid, specialist care can mean the difference between life and death.

This surge highlights both the growing need for community-based emergency response and the vital role our volunteers play in those critical first minutes before hospital care is available.

πŸš‘ 2025 Community First Responder Call Statistics

We want to share a snapshot of the work our volunteer emergency medical responders carried out across the year. Every call represents a neighbour in need, and every response is powered by people who give their time freely to help others.

❀️ What These Numbers Really Mean

Behind every statistic is a person, a family, and a moment where help was needed fast. Our responders stepped forward day and night, in all weather, to support our community. We’re incredibly proud of the dedication shown by every member of the team.

πŸ™ Thank You

A huge thank you to:

β€’ Our responders and their families
β€’ The National Ambulance Service (NAS) crews we work alongside.
β€’ The local community who continue to support us through donations, training venues, and encouragement.

Your support keeps us going.

🚨 Looking Ahead to 2026

We remain committed to strengthening our skills, growing our team, and being there when the call comes. Together, we make our community safer and stronger.

While christmas party season may be in full swing for some, our dedicated volunteer community first responders swapped the festive cheer to keep training last night! πŸŽ„πŸ“š

Training focused on recognising and managing chest pain, early decision-making, and working as a team until advanced care arrives in a cardiac arrest scenario.

Tonight Macroom Community First Responder team took part in a Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) session.

As responders, we face moments that stay with us, and it’s vital to recognise how those experiences can affect us. Tonight was a reminder that taking time to reflect and debrief is part of staying healthy and effective in the work we do.

Thank you Critical - Emergency Medical Response for providing this valuable session and to Cian who come from Dublin to facilitate it.
