Lixnaw Hurling Club would like to extend our deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the family of Aidan Connolly, affectionately known to all as Sammy.

Sammy was a familiar and much-loved face around Hermitage Park, regularly making the journey from Wexford and Waterford to the green grass to support his nephew James, our current Senior Hurling Team Manager, both during his playing days and now in his role with the team.

His presence on the sideline, his support and his genuine interest in Lixnaw hurling will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

The GAA is built on family, friendship and community, and Sammy was very much part of that Lixnaw hurling family and community.

We extend our deepest condolences to his sisters, Shelia Flaherty (Tullacrim) Mary Kenny (Crotta) and Catherine, James and all of the Connolly family at this very difficult time.

May the memories of Sammy bring comfort to his family and friends in the days ahead.

💚💛U16 County Championship Plate result;
Lixnaw 4-16
East Kerry 5-08

On a humid evening in Firies, our U16 team had a tough battle with East Kerry in this county final that went down to the wire. The local side got off to a dream start with two fast goals but our lads gradually worked their way into the game, holding a five point advantage. The second half continued to swing from end to end with East Kerry scoring crucial goals from their hard running game.

Level at normal time, the game went to extra time where our lads really stepped up the pressure. A string of unanswered points followed by a goal put the Lixnaw lads into a significant lead. East Kerry struck back with a goal but it would not be enough to deny our boys their deserved victory in the fading light. The basis for the win was built on a really hardworking display by all the team against a strong and fit opposition.

Captain Corey Heaphy led the way with a fine performance at wing forward scoring with great accuracy from play and frees. His vice captain Aaron Collins put in another big shift at wing back to help stem the East Kerry side.

Thank you to competition sponsor Lee Strand, referee Brian O’Sullivan, Firies for the pitch and all those who helped and supported the team.

The team take a break for a week now ahead of the North Kerry Championship campaign.
