❤️ WORLD HEART DAY – 29th Sept ❤️

Today, Listowel Community First Responders are marking World Heart Day, a reminder of how important it is to look after our hearts and know what to do in a cardiac emergency.

Small actions can make a big difference:

❤️ Know the signs of a heart attack
❤️ Learn CPR
❤️ Know where your nearest defibrillator is
❤️ Stay active and make heart-healthy choices
❤️ Never delay seeking help if you think someone is having a heart attack

As Community First Responders, we see just how important early CPR and early defibrillation can be when someone suffers a cardiac arrest.

A healthier heart leads to a brighter tomorrow. ❤️

🌡️ EXTREME HEAT ALERT 🌡️

Listowel Community First Responders are reminding everyone to take extra precautions during today’s extreme heat.

💧 Stay hydrated – Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty.

☀️ Avoid direct sun exposure – If you need to be outdoors, seek shade whenever possible and try to limit outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day (11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.).

👒 Protect yourself by:
✅ Wearing light-coloured, loose-fitting clothing
✅ Wearing a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses
✅ Checking in on seniors, neighbours, family members, and anyone who may be vulnerable to the heat
✅ Never leaving children or pets in a parked vehicle—even for a few minutes

Know the warning signs of heat-related illness, including dizziness, headache, nausea, excessive sweating, or confusion. If someone is experiencing symptoms of heat stroke, call 911 immediately.

Let’s work together to keep our community safe during this heat event.

Strokes are a medical emergency, and urgent treatment is essential. The sooner a person gets treatment for a stroke, the less damage is likely to happen.

Huge congratulations to our First Responder Gill pictured first on the left who participated in the Emergency First Responder Course (EFR) and passed her final exam with flying colours we are so proud and grateful to have Gill as part of our group. Also well done to our other responder who has recently joined us Kiana who is a course instructor, both ladies are also part of the Kerry Civil Defence 👏🏻 we are very lucky to have them ❤️

Help Build Blood Supplies for the busy Easter period - Listowel Monday 30th & Tuesday 31st March.
The need to build blood stocks around this period is especially important.
2026 has seen a spike in demand for blood.
The Irish Blood Transfusion Service is asking donors both existing & first time to attend this clinic.
A strong turnout now will help ensure hospitals have the blood supplies they need over Easter period.
