This week, Tuesday Cubs learned how to use kick sampling to test the water quality of one of our local streams. This seemingly minor waterway is thought to be an important spawning ground for salmon so it’s really important that it is protected. Huge thanks to Colum Walsh, Senior Community Water Office and Tom Hilgers, Catchment Scientist with Local Authority Waters Programme for coming out to facilitate the session. We were delighted to find that the results of our survey indicated that the water quality was good and even more delighted to accidentally catch a baby trout in the process!

Bravo to the youth members of Port Dollymount Sea Scouts.

Four teenagers from 5th Port Dollymount Sea Scouts in north Dublin saved a man stricken in the water on Sunday afternoon.

A man came running up the beach from the nearby wooden bridge shouting to the scouts, who were taking their rowing boat out of the water at the back of their den on Bull Island, that someone was trapped under the bridge and was at risk of being swept out to sea.

The scouts quickly relaunched a skiff and Aoibheann Conlon (17), Laura Daly (17) and brothers Oisín and Gavin Weadick (both 16) rowed to the scene of the emergency.

Thank you to everyone who got in touch over the last year. Our waiting list for entry to our group in September 2026 has now closed. Place offers will be sent out over the summer, once we have a clearer idea of how many spots we will have available for new members.

Our Tuesday Cubs teamed up with friends from Castleconnell Scout Group and Scouts, 29th Limerick, for at the weekend for the Cub edition of Scouting Ireland Survivor. Having found themselves shipwrecked at Castleconnell Campsite, they had to keep their wits about them in order to survive the next 24 hours. They learned how to build & use fishing rods, construct rafts, archery skills, navigate & use a compass, signal using semaphores, light & cook over fires, put up shelters, work as a team, make friends & fight very aggressive midges. We are delighted to say they survived and were reunited with their families yesterday morning, having been awarded badges for their bravery and skill. Well done Cubs!!!

Belated pics of the County Beaver Day Out in Bunratty Castle and Folk Park!!

Almost 80 Beavers and 20 scout leaders from across the county attended in the absolutely glorious weather conditions 🌞. They were treated to a guided tour of the Medieval Castle 🏰 and a Scavenger Hunt in the folk village. After enjoying a picnic and fun in the Viking Playground there was lots more exploring in the afternoon. Thank you to all of the organisers for another great county event. 😎

We’re very fortunate to have a beautiful forest park in our village and both Tuesday Cubs and Tuesday Beavers took advantage of that this week - the Cubs brushing up on their shelter building in advance of their Cub Survivor event, and Beavers going on a leaf-themed scavenger hunt.

Congrats to our scouter Tim who was awarded his Wood Badge this week.
