Our industrious Tuesday Beavers have been out and about a lot since starting back in September. They kicked off with a family focused meet up and campfire in the woods, and took part in National Walking Week as well as playing games and getting to know each other.

Monday Beavers have hit the ground running since they started back last month. Lots of time spent outdoors, collecting conkers and berries, learning how to measure the height of a tree using a pencil, plus plenty of games and, of course, practice in toasting marshmallows to perfection!

Here is the required minimum standard for Level 1 to 4.
A walk around town or wholly on local roads is insufficient.

To describe the proper standard of walking or hiking for the hillwalking badge we use the phrase QMD,

Quality Mountain Day. A QMD is a better description to use, one that tells the proper story.

Level 1
3 hours walking (not resting or breaks) with a minimal height gain of 50mtr to 100mtr
A walk around town or on local roads is insufficient.
Should be firmly based in the wild countryside and include crossing open countryside as well as forest path or park walking.

Level 2
4 hours walking, (not resting or breaks) distance of no less than 8km with a minimal height gain of 50mtr to 100mtr
A walk around town or on local roads is insufficient.
Should be firmly based in the wild countryside and include crossing open countryside as well as forest path or park walking.

Level 3
5 hours walking (not resting or breaks) distance of no less than 10km with a minimal height gain of 200mtr to 250mtr
3 QMD’s - one to include a summit
A walk around town or on local roads is insufficient.
Should be firmly based in wild countryside and include crossing open countryside

Level 4
5 hours walking, (not resting or breaks) distance of no less than 10km with a minimal height gain of 350mtr to 400mtr
3 QMD’s - one to include an overnight (you have the choice of daypack only, sleeping gear portered to overnight location)
A walk around town or on local roads is insufficient.
Should be firmly based in wild countryside and include crossing open countryside

REMINDER: Castleconnell Scout Group are holding a metal recycling day to raise funds for the upkeep of their campsite. Our own group derives huge benefit and use from the campsite and we would love to see everyone support this event. Below is a list of the kinds of items they will and will not accept.

Items can be dropped to Castleconnell Campsite on Friday from 5-7pm and Saturday from 9-1pm.

Our Scrap Metal Fundraiser is getting closer!

Please support Castleconnell Scouts and take this opportunity to clear out any unwanted scrap metal and dispose of it responsibly while helping to raise much-needed funds for our Scout Group. ⚜️

Our neighbours in Castleconnell have organised a metal collection fundraiser to help with the upkeep of their lovely campsite (which we, and other groups across the country, use quite regularly) and to raise money to replace group equipment. Please support this very worthy cause if you can.

📣 Castleconnell Scouts – First Fundraiser of 2026/27! ⚜️

We’re kicking off the new Scouting year with our first fundraiser! 🎉

Funds raised will go directly towards the maintenance and upkeep of our Scout campsite, as well as helping us to purchase and replace essential group equipment used by our Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Ventures throughout the year. 🏕️🔥🧭

Our campsite and equipment are a huge part of giving our young people the opportunity to learn new skills, get outdoors, camp, explore and enjoy all that Scouting has to offer.

Our Heritage event is in full swing at hall. Come see us, learn about our Cub water project and grab yourself a lovely book or bake to enjoy. We have free sandwiches and refreshments here, and space to relax and read or have a chat.

Three of our diligent Cubs - Grace, Sofia and Ruby - have been working hard on a fantastic environmental project as part of their Chief Scout Award with Murroe Boher Cub Scouts. 🐾🌿
They have been investigating the Dooglasha River, using kick-sampling and looking at the tiny creatures living in the water to learn more about the health and quality of our local river. 🐛🔎
They will be presenting their project at Water Heritage Day this Sunday, and we would love to see lots of familiar faces there to support them! 💙
