Our weeding efforts continued this week as we remain focused on for Gold. Either side of our big effort on Wednesday, we also removed the weeds outside the former Castleconnell Post Office and the top of the village onto Railway Road. A worthwhile improvement, we hope you agree. Any suggestions on other areas that need some TLC? Thanks.

📣 Castleconnell Scouts – First Fundraiser of 2026 ⚜️

We’re kicking off the new Scouting year with our first fundraiser! 🎉

Funds raised will go directly towards the maintenance and upkeep of our Scout campsite, as well as helping us to purchase and replace essential group equipment used by our Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Ventures throughout the year. 🏕️🔥🧭

Our campsite and equipment are a huge part of giving our young people the opportunity to learn new skills, get outdoors, camp, explore and enjoy all that Scouting has to offer.

🙏 We’d really appreciate your support. Please see the flyer below for details, and if you can, share this post and help us spread the word!

Every bit of support makes a difference. 💚

Thank you from everyone at Castleconnell Scouts! ⚜️

On a rainy night, we take the opportunity to thank a few people who are helping to keep our community looking well. Thanks to Emer O Donnell, Colm Martin, the O’Sullivan Family and Peter Enright for ensuring the stretch from the Castle Oaks House Hotel to the bottom of Chapel Hill is s***k and span.

Over the last few days, we tidied up the pavements around our oldest graveyards. We got our work ethic and pride of place from those who reared us. It’s important to have the graveyard approach looking well for all who come to spend time with their loved ones.

Castleconnell Tidy Towns would like to congratulate our volunteer Issac on an exceptional performance in his Leaving Cert exams. He achieved 544 points which should be sufficient to allow him to continue his studies in UL. Well deserved 🎉.

Last night our Going for Gold efforts continued with a spruce up of Martin McCabe’s memorial and major weeding from the Ferry to the SuperValu corner. We forgot to take the before pictures but trust me, there were a lot of weeds 😊. Thanks to our team of six for a great night’s work.

On Sunday afternoon we had a terrific turnout of over 40 people for an excellent talk by Pat O’Connor from Castleconnell River Association and Ruairí Ó Conchúir Regional Projects Lead, River Basin Management Service. The aim of the talk was to demonstrate that our community is taking responsibility for our own river, beginning to bring back awareness of what we still have, and what we’re doing to make it better. The walk ended with some invertebrate analysis and lovely scones and beverage in the most suitable stretch tent at the Castle Oaks House Hotel.
