Meet the member is back! As National Volunteer Week draws to a close we would like to say thank you to all the volunteers throughout Ireland and also introduce you to some of our volunteers by giving you an insight and getting to know our team through our Meet the Members posts.
đśMeet Olesia Romanova, she has been helping patrol the bridges and banks of the River Shannon since January of this year, helping people in distress or contemplating su***de.
đśAs one of our newest volunteers, Olesia has already being very active in the group through supporting events off patrol and helped out with this years Darkness Into Light Limerick event.
đśOlesia currently works as an interpreter in hospitals supporting Ukrainian patients. As someone who is also living in emigration, Olesia understands first-hand how important support, kindness and human connection is needed during difficult times. Olesia enjoys taking part in different volunteer activities and charity runs, and is passionate about helping people feel to be seen, heard and supported. Living in Limerick Olesia became aware of how many Ukrainians struggle because of language barriers or isolation, so she wanted to use her experience and communication skills to help where she can. She believes sometimes just being there for someone can make a huge difference.
đśIn Olesia's own wordâsâŚâI joined LSW because mental health is something very close to my heart and I know how important it is for people to feel that they are not alone. I have seen how difficult life changes, stress and isolation can affect people, especially those far from home or without a strong support network. Knowing there is such a strong community organisation in Limerick inspired me to get involved!â
