We are delighted that Landlines a new film written and directed by Tristan Heanue has based it production team in Ellis Hall in the Connemara West Centre for the next few weeks. They are current recruiting extras so if you fancy experiencing the filming process in real life follow the QR link in the poster below and give it a go.

ATU Connemara will be raising a Green Flag which they were awarded in March after a comprehensive application was submitted by students and staff as part of the Green Campus committee. The flag raising will take place at 2pm in the front lawn in the Connemara West Centre and all are welcome.

Huge congratulations to Letterfrack National School who were delighted to collect their 9th Green flag. They spent the last two years working on the theme of Global Citizenship and Travel. They looked at more sustainable ways to get to school such as the bus and Park and Stride. A big issue that became apparent to us was the speed at which vehicles pass the school. They focused on adding signage and getting the lights fixed to highlight the pedestrian crossing. They highlighted the issue with local politicians and local Gardaí. Ideally they would like a raised pedestrian crossing outside the school and they will continue to work towards that. They also did some fun scooter and cycle workshops and learned about the effects of Climate change.
The whole school community put great work and effort achieving this flag and they are to be admired as they are looking forward to working on our next flag.

Samantha Tobiáš is a PhD research student in UCD and is inviting people to a community workshop on climate change and cultural landscapes in Connemara, taking place on

6 May at 6pm in Diamond Hill Community Centre.

The workshop will share insights from her PhD research at University College Dublin, which explores how climate change is affecting cultural landscapes and local traditions in the region. Over the past year, She has spoken with members of the community including farmers, fishermen, archaeologists, and biodiversity officers.

This event is an opportunity to present some of those findings and, importantly, to open up a discussion around them. A key aim is to return this knowledge to the community and create space for feedback!

Everyone with an interest in these topics is very welcome to attend. Tea, coffee, and biscuits will be provided.
