❗️Community Notice - Recycling Bins & Litter❗️
Over the past year or two, a local volunteer has regularly been out litter picking and has noticed that Mondays can be particularly bad for litter following recycling collections. On windy days especially, a significant amount of recyclable waste can end up blown around the area after bins have been emptied.
While this has often been assumed to be an issue with service providers, a recent walk along the village Main Street showed that much of the litter was unfortunately coming from household blue bins that had been put out overflowing, with lids not properly secured. When bins are left like this on windy nights, the contents can easily be blown out and scattered.
Residents are kindly asked, where possible, to:
- Squash recycling down so contents aren’t loose
- Ensure the bin lid is fully closed and secure
- Position bins so the handles face into the wind and the opening faces away from it, reducing the chance of lids flipping open
Small steps like these can make a big difference in keeping the area tidy and reducing litter 😊🙏🏼
Thanks everyone for your cooperation and care for the community.🌻
