Following our road trip to An Grianan for 2026 Competitions weekend we have more Trophies and Crystal to add to our growing collection in our cabinet. We thank our Federation Arts Officer, Anne Marie Donohue, who has worked tirelessly for the last 2 months to organise all this participation.Congratulations to all the ladies, Anne Marie Donohue, Joan Mulvihill, Margaret O’Hara, Kay Smyth, Mary Carthy, Nuala Rollins, Eilish, Rosalind McCormack, Eileen Bohan and Anne Farrelly in the Choir who beat off stiff competition to win The Baumann Shield for music with fine renditions of “After the Ball was over” from A Woman’s Heart Album and “Blanket on the Ground” from Irish female Country singer Philomena Begley. They were accompanied on the keyboard by Anne Farrelly and with piccolo music by Kay Smyth and Eileen Bohan.
In the new for 2026 Cultural competition we had many of the same talented members Anne Marie Donohue, Kay Smyth, Mary Carthy, Eileen Bohan, Bernie Campbell, Cáit McKeon, Sandra Flood, Mary Fenelon, Bernie Rehill & Margaret McDonald, who entertained us for 15 minutes with a half set, an Irish song, Piccolo music, a recitation, a brush dance, a four hand reel finishing off with a waltz. We came second in this competition.
Last but not least our drama based on the theme “Did that really happen” again beat off stiff competition to come third and a bit of crystal to take home. Hats off to the winners Ballinora Guild Cork who won and Galway who came second. Participants in this were Anne Marie Donohue, Anne O’Reilly, Mary Fenelon, Bríd Sweeney, Rosalind McCormack, Sandra Flood and May Campbell.
In the Table Quiz we were represented by the Town Guild and while they didn’t win they did us proud. 27 Federations took part in this. Our Quiz team were Margaret McCormack, Vivienne Brogan and Kathy Breen.
Well done to all our participants and good luck to Mary Carthy competing in the Gempack today with a Cherry Cake and Margaret McDonald who is one of the 6 finalists in the Creative Writing.
