Luckily there's a good lot of hedgehogs around WoodstownVillage Knocklyon and Knocklyon Park. Why not log your sightings so that there's better knowledge of how they are doing?

SDCC is encouraging you to take part in the inaugural 'Great Big All-Ireland Hedgehog Count' starting today by recording all hedgehog sightings in South Dublin County on the National Biodiversity Data Centre website

Hedgehog numbers are in decline across Europe and your participation in the hedgehog count will assist in understanding the hedgehog numbers in Ireland. Hedgehog Conservation Ireland is encouraging people all across the country to make an extra big effort to look for hedgehogs in their garden, local park, green areas or woods. Hedgehogs become active at dusk and please admire them from a distance as it is very important that we do not disturb the hedgehogs or their nests during the count. Further information is available at Irish Hedgehog Survey here: https://buff.ly/y8Pb6ri

We were delighted to be part of this novel event organised by the great Bernie Roche in Rathfarnham Village Tidy Towns. Hopefully all attendees left feeling empowered to start some citizen science activities in their area! FIT (Flower Insect Timed) counts and water quality surveys are easy to do, provide invaluable information about our biodiversity to the NBDC (National Biodiversity Data Centre) and are a great excuse to spend time in nature!

WoodstownVillage Knocklyon were delighted to work together with our friends in Knocklyon Network Tidy Towns and Rathfarnham Village Tidy Towns in the wonderful grounds of Orlagh House, looking at freshwater invertebrates in our streams with lovely students from Firhouse Educate Together Secondary School! All our local streams feed into the Dodder River and on into the sea so it's essential we protect them!
